Just curious, as a person whos going to be taking the DAT in April, if you could give just one snippet of advice ( ), what would you say and what was your hardest part of the DAT? I can't wait to get to dental school!!!

I'd say the PAT was the hardest part.. Thank goodness it's also the least important part (depends on the school, I guess). Study hard for all the sections and you are sure to be rewarded. I didn't use it but I heard that acethedat is very good for PAT practice.

good luck to you!

best advice: Study for the exam like you want to get a 30. On every section. Study with that kind of intensity, and you'll do well. that was the attitude i brought in to the exam. Besides a low PAT score, I got a 22 or higher on each of the other 5 sections.

from my own experience (not sure if it's representative), don't overstress memorizing hormones et al.; just make sure you really understand evolution and so one. they'll still be some random questions about the foramen ovale and the distal convoluted tubules, but the test i took stressed concepts much more (luckily for me, the chronic understudier... though i did memorize the hormones 😛 )

Good luck!

i recommend looking at PAT everyday from now till your test date for 30mins

for the QR do some weird math problems for 15-20mins a day also (time your self)

That's a great suggestion. PAT is definitely not one of the subjects that you can cram and figure out in a day or two.

The night before my DAT, I dreamed about rotating pegs. 🙄

I agree with this statement. Each section has its own challenges. Perhaps another point to add is never, never, NEVER, become complacent and lulled into a false sense of security concerning your knowledge base and abilities. For example, the PAT section is more difficult than what Kaplan throws at you, and a couple of friends of mine assumed it would be a cake walk because they breezed through Kaplan, looked at the answers, looked at the problem again, and became blind to their mistakes and weaknesses. Get your hands on as many practice exams as possible, go over each question until you understand it, and then study some more. That's my snippet of advice. Best of luck!

remember that your single reading or math score is weighted the same as your bio, chem, and orgo combined.

therefore, if chemical process @#$(*($ is driving you crazy and you're just not getting it, don't get overstressed and devote 8 hours to studying that one little thing which may not even appear on the test and if it does only accounts for a section that is worth 1/9 of the AA--instead devote that 8 hours to make sure your timing and skills for the math and reading are up to par.

👍 april is a very smart time to take it. at the end of the semesters so you have all the info from classes crammed into your head, but early enough so that if you do need to retake it later on, you will have time to (before applications are due)

Reading comprehension is the hardest for me. You gotta bring your own technique to the exam. Real DAT RC part is different from kaplan, topscore... reasoning is important.
