I am a Finance major and so I am just taking the required pre-requisites for Dental School along with a genetics course last semester. I was looking at Barron's DAT Prep Book and noticed that a section of the Biology is on the structure and function of vertebrate systems. General Biology did not cover this and so I was wondering if there is a book or something I could read or if test prep books (I am taking the Kaplan course this summer) would be enough preparation for this section.

use the barrons for PAT only....ditch it for the sciences and pick up a copy of Cliff's AP Bio --> very comprehensive, chapter review questions, perfect depth for the DAT.

jb!🙂

Word. Barron's review of the sciences blows.

I used the Kaplan blue book for Anatomy review and I did fine. (But I had an anatomy class in High school and remembered a lot from that).... But even if you're learning it cold Kaplan is a good place to start.

I never had anatomy either and took kaplan and did sweet on the DAT. They give you a ton of reading and homework sections to do but do them all. Also they give you like 6 full length practice tests. When i was done the homework, reading and studying i took 1 practice test every sunday for 6 sundays, so i got really used to taking one a week and then took the real one on like a saturday. Kaplan helps a ton by getting you on a schedule. Just seriously do every assignment whether it is required or not, and try to memorize all the important stuff you read and learn.

I took Kaplan classroom course at Westwood Center, CA. I do not think it's helpful for having those MD students as instructors... however, I found that the resources online are very helpful. I recommend to buy the TopScore CD-Rom for practice.

Honestly, i don't think the classroom course is helful. However, the reference book comes with it is great for me as a study guide. You can purchase it online or in most of the bookstore. I got 19 for my first DAT which is taken right after I finished the course. And I got a better score (21) for my second time by just studying that book plus TopScore CD-Rom.
