Hey guys,

I took the DAT about a month and a half ago and didn't score as well on the bio section as I would liked to have. I think a lot of it was because I was a little overwhelmed by the material and didn't have a specific study program or understanding of what all needed to be studied.

I was curious to see if there was someone who has taken the DAT and done well in the bio section who could give me some advice about maybe what they did to study and/or how they studied for the bio section?

first, you need to study everything in biology because anything could show up on the test. biology is by far the most random section on the DAT. that being said, there are a number biology section breakdowns available to give the approximate number of questions to expect from each of the major biology subjects. for instance, i believe most breakdowns say to expect about 9-11 questions on anatomy and physiology, and the go-to line of questioning for physiology is generally endocrinology, embryology, muscles, and kidneys. there are also generally a number of cell/molecular biology and evolution/origins of life questions. if you weight your study by these section breakdowns you will put your best efforts into the more heavily tested areas. i used the kaplan book to cover the basics of everything first, then i moved into the DAT Destroyer for some in depth questions. over the last few weeks before my test i supplemented that with the thinkwell biology videos and a lot of practice tests. after all of this i felt very comfortable during the biology section and only had one question that i was uncertain on (it was about microarray technology, which i had not studied). i ended up with a 23 in the section. good luck.

Did you try Datqvault
What about Ochm and Gchm? Anything from Acheiver/Topscore show up there?

Also how would you compare Destroyer to those sections? (Gchm and Ochm)

Also if you still feel like answering, how about CDP vs real?

And to everyone else, I am aware these questions have been asked before don't tell me to look at the archive or a sticky, this is a dynamic test that changes over the years and would like to hear from someone who has done well and recently

Haha didn't bother to look into qvault since I felt I had all the prep material I needed, plus I didn't know that much about it in the first place 😛
As for Orgo and GC, nothing "exact" showed up but the topics covered on Achiever and TopScore were pretty spot on. Like a lot of people have said, you don't really have to crunch numbers too much (except easy stuff like finding moles and molarity) and when you do, ball parking is sufficient imo. If you go through Destroyer thoroughly, you'll be well prepared for the GC and Orgo. Orgo was definitely the easiest (but then again, I just finished orgo 1 and 2 this past school year).

CDP is very close to the real thing but I felt it was kind of in a skewed direction. By that I mean, it was similar in difficulty but they test you slightly different things. For example, keyholes on CDP were about the shapes while the DAT was more of determine which side is shorter kind of deal. Achiever is better for PAT imo.
