I would like know more about this idea of "blackout dates" in mid-late January for taking the DAT . It seems like there used to be these "maintenance days" every year until about 2010. Rumors were (at the time) that the ADA took advantage of these days to redo the tests by introducing new questions (not so good for those taking it right after). However, nothing like this has happened in recent years based on what I can tell and there don't seem to be blackout dates this year either.
I know nobody but the ADA actually knows, but what do people hear/think about how this may affect those taking the test right about this time? Is the test still updated this time of year or is it always being updated, either at particular intervals, or just randomly.
Anybody have any reason to conclude that there's till something special about this former "blackout period" that would perhaps mean that taking test right after would not be a good idea (unless you want crazy experimental questions thrown at you)?

I think the technology is more advance than years back and they can filter new questions in without a blackout. The DAT has added new questions since 2010 yet there have been no blackout dates.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks. Do you or Dr. Romano have ANY reason to believe that certain times of year are when these new questions are filtered in? Like I've heard that new stuff comes up in early summer-is midwinter also such a time?

If there is going to be a major change the ADA would post it on their website. They have been very vague for years, and starting talking about QR changes in 2010, and everything remains the same. ADA can filter in questions at anytime, I do not believe a certain time of year has anything to do with it.

I would focus time on studies and less time on trying to figure out the ADA. Should I get any information I always post it asap.

Happy New Year and good luck in your studies and on the DAT!
