Dat Books

To get down some basics I would start by buying the Kaplan DAT book. This alone will help you to get an average score of like 18-19. For PAT stuff try to look online for some pdf practice exams to just practice it over and over. Also if you have a friend that took Kaplan ask if they can give you the Kaplan pdf practices tests. There are some practice pdf exams like KSF review, which i haven't checked out, but practice questions are necessary to get you thinking and reinforce material. If you can learn by doing problems, (this is the fastest and most efficient way to study), then buy the DAT Destroyer. In it you will find some very tough questions that will really prepare you and comes with explanations. Whatever materials you end up using make sure that you take hard simulated practice exams before you take the real thing. Some of the best programs out there are Topscore and DAT Achiever: both of which are hard and strongly correlate with the type of questions seen on the DATs.

So use Kaplan as a base, Kaplan pdfs if you can get them as practice questions, online practice questions, DAT Destroyer if you want a high score as long as you put in the time and effort, Topscore and DAT Achiever as practices to see how you would fair on the exam both are 3 full length exams.

for the bio you might just want to go over your biology textbooks, even the kaplan 1399$ course's massive biology notes section just barely skims the surface of what you might face on the dat.

Ok, get Cliff's Notes overview of General Biology for the bio section. I used/memorized it and killed the bio section.

I would certainly buy destroyer. Destroyer is a study guide that tests your knowledge on a wide array of topics. Every question touches upon at least 3-5 topics that attacks every subject head-on. Its solutions are highly informative.
Because the study guide is formulated into questions and not formatted like any other book it keeps you intrigued and prepared to understand the material and focus on areas you need to work on.
A few weeks before the test I would buy Top score and Achiever. They are good for simulating a similar testing environment under similar conditions.
Best,

Dan

Stop reading Barron's - its not very good except for the PAT section. I say start with Kaplan - Kaplan is great for laying a foundation. DAT Destroyer will help you sharpen your skills and Topscore is an excellent set of computerized practice tests. The one draw back to Kaplan is the bio section is a little weak so DAT Destroyer will help if you choose to purchase that, or you can get Cliff's bio review as previously mentioned - I personally used and prefer Schaum's Outline of Biology to help fill in the areas the Kaplan skimmed over.
