I just took my test today, and I scored much lower than I expected. I am a rising junior with a 3.7 cGPA, and 3.6 sGPA. Do you think I should retake the test or apply with these scores if I'm interested in getting accepted to one of the cheaper dental schools?

PAT (23)
I got the score I expected. I did some practice with the generators earlier in my studying, but I neglected it the last few weeks.

Math is not my strong suit, and I am not completely disappointed with this score. However, I think I could do a little better.

I was hoping for a much higher score on this one because it is my strong suit. The last passage was insanely difficult and I was running out of time. It was nothing like I had seen on BC.

Totally forgot about gram negative/ positive bacteria. There were like 3 questions on those.

Higher than I expected, but I still think I could do better.

I was overconfident in this section and totally neglected it for most of my studying thinking that I had a good grasp of it from my college courses.

Your score is good and your gpa is decent. I doubt you'll need to retake because you have nothing below 17. Don't let the absurdly high stats on SDN intimidate you, you will open many doors with those stats.

I would just focus on improving other aspects of your application. Your DAT score is good enough and your GPA is good enough as well. It's more important to focus on staying involved in community outreach and the dental field.

Your scores are good and so is your GPA, but state schools which are generally cheaper tend to be very competitive. Most students want to go to the cheaper schools. I would take the time to contact those schools directly with your stats and get advice from them. I have many years of experience working with students and I can not answer that question, you need to do the research.

Congrats on completing the DAT and my wish is that these scores are what you need to get in the school you choose.

Wishing you the best...Nancy, co/owner, Destroyer

Thank you for your input, Nancy. I am a non-resident, so I will most likely be applying as an international student. I am not sure if it is more difficult to get in as an international student, so I think I might have to retake it. Does it look bad to retake the test? I’m aware that I have to score higher on the second try.

Hi, I have worked with many international students through the years and I have not been aware of any problems as long as the DAT score and GPA were competitive for the schools applied to. It does not look bad to retake the test, many students for various reasons retake the DAT, BUT make the 2nd time is your last time. Do not race to take the test again until you are VERY confident you can raise your scores. As I mentioned your scores are not bad at all, but I think you know you can do better. But before retaking do some homework and contact schools etc.

Hope that helps and you can always reach out, I do my best to help students.

You are amazing! Thank you so much for your help. I think I am going to study with the destroyer this time around. At first I thought it was overkill, but I think I really need it to learn the information more proficiently.

You have the drive and desire to achieve, your great GPA shows that, always believe and #think30.
