Hey fellow Canadians - I'm finding it really difficult to lay down longitudinal lines. I'm using the free-hand method as suggested by IQ Pub but I'm finding it that my lines aren't straight - they keep steering off or they're diagonal...is there a sure fire way to do this or do I just keep practicing? Any advice?

For drawing out the longitudinal lines the easiest way i found to do it was just to lay the soap flat on the table as well as the marker. Then just slide the marker longitudinally across the soap while it is still flat on the table... works everytime. If you use the pencil this may not work as well though i guess. Hopefully this make sense

Hey, for the longitudinal lines, or any lines for that matter, I didn't even bother using the marker or pencil. I found that the markers quickly became useless when they were covered in soap shavings, so I just stuck with using the blade to score lines into the soap. As far lines along the length of the soap, I usually knotched out some deeper cuts on the rounded ends and either A) free handed a line connecting each knotch (lay the soap against the flat part of the handle and drag *it takes practice) or B) placed the soap on the table and placed the ruler against it on a 45 angle while holding the soap steady then just dragged the blade across the soap using the ruler as a guide...
