OK...i have my DAT in about 4 days - and I am desperately serching for someone to either confirm or deny my fears concerning kaplan DAT practice tests.

did anyone else find the kaplan chemistry to be rediculously hard on the computerized practice tests? it seems like no matter what I study in the book, they always through something on the practice tests that is nowhere to be found in my book. I'm scoring 20's on biology, reading, PAT, and 18-19 on quant., and 17-19 on orgo. my gen chem will not exceed 15 no matter what i do!!!

on the practice exam (the 1993 test) i got a 17 on the gen chem, but since then, i have been consistently at 15!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!

someone please tell me that gen chem on the "real" DAT is doable!!!

thanks for all your help guys!!!!

Reed1978,

After taking the Kaplan tests, I was also worried about the gen chem section. But it was okay...the DAT gen chem was a lot easier! I ended up getting an increase in the gen chem section by 7 points.

You'll be fine...good luck!

Relax!! I was in the same situation as you and I felt the same way. But when I took the DAT i started to crack up (seriously!!) it was sooo easy, I mean the answer is so obvious. Just look for "uniqueness."

You will be fine a 15 translates into a least a 19.

Good luck,

I took the Kaplan practice DAT the 2 days before (the one you get from the bookstore) and got a 17. Then the day before the test, I took the DAT in the application packet and got an 18.

On the actual test, I got a 25! The thing is to stay calm and know that you've gone over all the material already. How you score on these practice tests is not indicative of how you are going to do on the actual test. Btw, on my test there was also a lot of molality..from what i remember. Good luck!!

My experience was the opposite: higher score on the practice Kaplan exams than on the actual DAT.

BTW, the DAT in the application packet is a joke and shouldn't be taken as ANY idea of how you will do on the actual test.

No need to worry. The DAT is VERY fair. I like many (Desi and othes) were worried and once i got there I was certain I was taking the wrong exam. It was like I was sitting in on all my first year classes but in remedial mode. Yes, the DAT in the application packet is a joke, but thats what the DAT is. I found that 50% of the DAT questions were similar to the ones in the application packet, 25% like Kaplan, and 25% like Topscore (but the easier part of Topscore, not the hard questions).

So be relieved. The DAT isn't meant to be killer. Besides you can always take it again. Don't worry, you know the material and so long your nerves are under control you'll do great.
