DAT Closures in Jan 2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hopefully they aren't doing as much to the DAT as they are to the Boards (NBDE), all new students will have a combined Part I, and Part II boards rather than taking Part I before clinical, and Part II after clinical. It is a TON to have to retain to the end and failure rates (which are already high) are going to skyrocket 🙁

Uh that's the first I've heard about Part I and II being combined together. Where'd you hear that?

What is the charge of the CIE?
The charge of the CIE is to develop and validate a new examination instrument for dentistry that integrates basic, behavioral, and clinical sciences to assess entry level competency in dental practice to assist state boards of dentistry in evaluating candidates for dental licensure. It is expected to be a long term project with implementation no sooner than 2015.

What will happen to the current NBDE Part I and NBDE Part II?
The JCNDE will continue to administer the current NBDE Part I and NBDE Part II until work on the INBDE is complete. Once the INBDE is launched, it will replace NBDE Part I and NBDE Part II. Sufficient transition time will be planned to allow students who have taken NBDE Part I time to complete NBDE Part II assuming the students stay on schedule to graduate within the normal time frame.

If a student has taken NBDE Part I but not NBDE Part II when the INBDE is implemented, will he/she have to take the INBDE?
No, a transition plan will be developed so that no students will be disadvantaged by the switch to the INBDE. Sufficient transition time will be planned to allow students who have taken NBDE Part I time to complete NBDE Part II, assuming the students stay on schedule to graduate within the normal time frame.

~I hope this isn't considered thread hijacking but i thought it was important and relavant to the discussion

Not a hijack at all, many people applying this coming cycle aren't aware of this change. As a current student, I am very grateful to have made it through before the change but have heard it is likely to start affecting the class of 2015, which is those being accepted Dec 1 of this year. If not then, most likely the year after. 😱 :scared: :xf:
