Hello,
This is my first time posting and about to start studying for DAT.
a friend of mine gave me 2008 version of DAT destroyer, since he is
done with his DAT. I was wondering, if it is worth spending more money
on buying 2011 version or i'm fine with 2008 version. I was hoping to stick with
2008 version if there isn't much difference between those two.

thank you!

I have 011 edition. before I purchased it I emailed the authors and asked them what is different about the 2008. Of course they told me that the current edition was more tailored to the current DAT though they didnt go into detail. There is a section in the 011 that deals strictly with chemical tests for various compounds (tollens tests/benedicts test etc). That is the only thing I know for sure that has changed. Plus if you buy from the website you can submit questions to the author get a response. I have been doing this and so far the success rate on this is about 50/50. I would say that the two books are probably similar enough that you wont need to purchase the current one. Especially if you can get the 08 version second hand.

I've practicing off of the 2008 book, and my test is one week away, so I won't have time to order the newest edition. Can you please tell me what are the chemical tests in the new book, other than Tollens' and Benedicts? Thank you so much!

I would say the major benefit of the newer destroyer is in the bio section. I had both the 2010 and 2011 editions, and yes there are differences between the two. In the chems, not all that much, there are stuff added and new concepts added which are important but you can figure those out if you mastered gen chem. However, in bio its golden, because everybody knows how random the bio is, and the destroyer does a great job of that.

Lets put it this way, i took my first exam in september and didnt do all that well, then i retook the exam last week, while studying with the new edition, and found like 7 questions from my september exam re-worded and placed in the bio section. If you have the extra money and want to do well in the bio...then get it!
