Could anyone explain how 1.2x10^-3 - 6.0x10^-4 equates to 6.0x10^-4?

I understand everything else...

Is it 12x10^-4 - 6.0x10^-4 equating to 6.0x10^-4?

Yup that's exactly right. Think of it as 12x10^-4 being 0.0012 and you are subtracting 6x10^-4 or 0.0006.

So just subtract 0.0012-0.0006 and you still get 0.0006 or 6x10^-4.
