One of the naming questions.
The answer is 2-oxooctanedioic acid. but another choice was 2-ketooctanedioic acid.

When is -oxo and -keto supposed to be used when naming, since they both refer to the ketone group?

thanks

If an aldehyde or carboxylic functional group is present along with the ketone, the ketone becomes an oxo- prefix. So, in the case of this molecule:

This would be called 2-oxopropanal.
