For almost $170, the book comes in a poor bound booklet. I had much higher expectations! The shipping cost about $20. Tell me if that's justified when you pay only $3 to ship via media mail.

I am using this book, along with my ACS guides and I feel that the ACS for organic chemistry, general chemistry (both about $20 each) are much more helpful. Destroyer is ok for practicing but it didn't teach me much of anything. I'd recommend the ACS books (both you can buy online for cheap). It teaches you basic concepts and has tons of questions to cover each topic. It's also easier to navigate e.g if you are weak in Thermodynamics, study the thermodynamics chapter.

For Biology, I am using the AP Biology book and Schaum's. AP biology prep questions (give by my sister's high school teacher) has 500 questions...plenty to cover the material with the book. This cost me about $10 online.

In summary, I feel that the material on the DAT Destroyer is not representative of the test. You are better off using the above guides.

But of course, if you have money and plenty of time and if it helps your confidence, use it. I'm not saying that it's a bad product. I'm saying that you can get the same quality for only $15 using the official ACS guides since they're written by the American Chemical Society for gen chem and ochem.

It seems that Orgoman is trolling on these forums to try to promote their products. I hope you read this and lower the price for students. C'mon, $20 for shipping! Also, it's not like orgoman put in so much effort yearly, he reuses the questions each year! For someone who promotes education, he surely likes to rip students off.

Cheers to DAT studying!

Im sure DAT destroyer is valuable because of its content (and not the poor binding quality or the over-priced shipping).... and no, I am in no shape or form trolling for orgoman's products....

DAT destroyer really shines in 2 areas. GC and Orgo. Yes its not very representative of the actual questions you'll encounter, but thats why its such a good resource. Its more challenging than the real DAT, it makes you learn the sciences from a foundational perspective. IMO, its an excellent resource (and a must) for a study-at-home applicant.

Amen to the resale comment! I bought 2010 used and sold it this year for more than I paid. Broke even on Math. The binding might be a little silly, but I'm only interested in what's printed on the pages. It's not like I want this thing sitting proudly on my bookshelf down the road.

The real waste with questions not representative of the test: Kaplan.

if i wouldn't have used destroyer, i would not have gotten a 23 and 24 in gen chem and ochem respectively

Good idea on resaling. And I'm just trying to save fellow pre-dents money and speaking about my experience. It's fine if you find the Destroyer helpful. It wasn't helpful for me. I found it overpriced compared to other great resources such as the official general and organic chemistry ACS examination guides. It covers every topic and are easy to follow and remember. My practice score shot way up after doing problems from there as compared to Destroyer.

Anyone tried the ACS for general and OC? I find them very helpful. They have plenty of practice questions.

Good luck studying! 😀

Hi~ h8t3r

anyway u know why destroyer is worth it? THe value barely depreciates even after u use it. just sell it to ur fellow predents.

Value/Worth is subjective.

the ACS for ochem and ochem in destroyer isn't all that different.

the only thing the acs has going for it is that it has a little section before and it explains you the problems.

Followed by some practice problems.

What the acs lacks is explanations to the practice problems. They just tell you its A,B,C, or D and that's it. Its great if you know why it is a particular answer but not everyone does. Depending on the problem destroyer explains why its one choice and not another.

Why didn't you just buy one from sales section on here? You could've saved a ton of money. I got mine 2009 version for like $50.

"PDF FORMATS ARE ILLEGAL!!!!"

I have the actual Destroyer and I find those on every single page highly annoying lol

IMO we need better mechanisms for feds/authorities to catch those who download/upload and use copywrighted materials. If those that used them thought there was a high prob. of jail time or a large sum of money taken from them they would not risk it - as it would end their potential dental career or w/e they were going for.

I'm sure many will disagree but consider this. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you created new content to make a profit and someone was undercutting you by breaking the law and providing your work to others for free. I would find it frustrating.

If you want it pay for it. If it's not worth it to you, dont.

/endrant.

Not if you only where the $5 shirt once and the $50 shirt 100xs😀

For those of us that struggled more with gen chem (for me because It had been 4-5 years since I had the course) ACS is a great way to practice problems that are in order and get down the concepts (use textbook/internet to look up concepts and write down solutions your first time through so you don't have to wonder the second time through. It helps with studying since the solidifying concept since solutions are not given. However, destroyer is necessary to test the knowledge and explain what you are missing.

Chad can teach you the concepts, but how would you know if you learned it without lots of practice. Just like school, there is the learning phase (Chad) and the reinforcing phase (Chad's mini tests and Destroyer, topscore, KSF review...) You can't do one without the other IMO.

You don't have to buy it if you have another resource that allows you do to practice problems (Like Kaplan online stuff, I hear they have a pretty good selection of tests and questions).

Whoa, godly score man. Did you use DAT destroyer organic section? or the odyssey?

Yeah I went off of the DAT Destroyer section and roadmaps. Memorize and understand the roadmaps and you're set to get at least a 20. I supplemented it with the Examkrackers MCAT orgo book.

The destroyer is good, but not something you absolutely need. However, I could've sworn I saw some questions on the DAT that were almost word for word from the Destroyer. I thought ACS was better at explaining concepts in GC and OC.

If you want to ENSURE a high score on the science sections, get destroyer.
Destroyer is great but like all other study aids, it's not essential.
I used destroyer, and my total science score is above 26.

"Destroyer is ok for practicing but it didn't teach me much of anything."

Well people study differently , just because you feel you cant learn from using destroyer does not mean "its not worth the money and that he is a troll".... You should look at majority and see what they used, and then on here you will see the majority have used his products and have done well and give praise to his product as the reason for a good score. Not only that, but he goes out of his way to answer subject questions on this forum, so you can account for his help on solving problems as part of the price you pay. I don't think anything is gained from making a post trying to bash someones product that they put hard work into - if you don't like it then its best to keep it to yourself and not buy it. If anything get good scores , make a breakdown and prove you found another way to get a good DAT score. - There are many ways using many products , no one is saying there is only one way.
"Also, it's not like orgoman put in so much effort yearly, he reuses the questions each year!"
Why would someone drastically change something when its proven to be working?
