After studying all summer for the DAT I would advise anyone who is studying to invest in the DAT destroyer!!! After going through kaplan and old books and notes, the destroyer really helped me grasp concepts I just wasn't getting. The explanations really helped me catch on to things and realize what mistakes I was making. The orgo reactions were great, and although they were hard, Dr. Romano gives great explinations for all the questions... furthermore, if you still aren't grasping a concept, Dr. Romano will explain it to you over the phone! Dr. Romano and Nancy sincerely want their students to do well and I am thrilled with my results.

i got 20's without using DAT destroyer. Kaplan for Orgo and Gen Chem and Cambell's for bio is sufficient enough.

And your point is?

His point is we don't need so many junior posters ( under 10 posts ) to tell us how great DAT DESTROYER is. Seriously, I also did very well without DAT DESTROYER. Why can't people just go to a bookstore and grab a bunch of tests and books?!!! Isn't that the best and cheapest way to study?!!

what other tests are out there other than kap and barrons? what tests are you talking about i really wanna buy some

So many. Go to barnes and noble, borders and other bookstores, go to the section where they have all these tests and prep books, AP books are really good especially for bio. Columbia Review sells a bunch of tiny books on bio, chem, etc with so much useful information. a ton of books for QR. Ask a librarian or a book seller. They can show you a ton of books. Also, look at all the prep books and tests on the shelves and see which tests and prep books you like most...

Hmm... and aren't you a junior poster?? So are you discounting your own opinion? People come to these forums at all different stages of the application cycle. If someone has a valid opinion it shouldn't matter how many posts he or she may have.

I'm not a junior poster and I would definitely recommend the DAT Destroyer to anyone who has the time to use it properly. Not to mention, Dr. Romano is an invaluable resource himself. He spent 50 minutes today on the phone with me going over questions and giving me tips he has gotten from other students who have taken the DAT. AND he just got back from vacation today!

Unfortunately, I bought the destroyer a few days ago and only had time to go throught the BIO section and select problems in chem & ochem.

I take the test on Wednesday and I will let you know how I do.

you missed the point. I am not advertising after less than 5 posts. It seems to me some junior posters (less than 5 posts) just join to say how great DAT DESTROYER is and then disappear forever. So many of these new members also advertise against all other prep courses/materials. Sounds fishy!!!

Is Dr. R. giving DAT DESTROYER for free? If he is you are right. If he isn't people can simply go to libraries and bookstores to take a look at so many books and tests written by experts in their respective fields.

I have yet to see that, unless they are truly crappy materials. They do advertise for the Destroyer, but that is as far as it goes normally.

I was an original basher and I've cooled off. I was getting tired of the plugs, but it seems that it really is good material. I am going to get it and give a review on all of the materials I have purchased.

Actually, what I believe you said "isn't that the best and cheapest way to study?"

For the first question, the answer would be no.
For the second question, the answer would be yes.

It is definately the cheapest. But if you are looking at spending thousands on application fees and then hundred(s) of thousand on dental school for four years, a couple hundred bucks should hardly make or break you in respect to the biggest test of your life. (other than the boards, I suppose)

From what I have collected, the Destroyer condenses a bunch of information into a single question and has in depth explanations. Also, it was made specifically after the author screened 1000's of DAT takers. So, it seems like it is a valuable resource for the DAT taker, but definately not the only source, nor does a DAT taker need it to get above average scores, that is just the trend on here.

Do what you want with the information and study how you please. Just remember their are some experienced and respected posters on here who are giving it the thumbs up despite the shameless plugs for the Destroyer. That tells me one thing, it must be a good material, otherwise people would rip it to shreds especially after paying the price they did.

It should at least make you think. But obviously anything can be done, it's all about working smarter, not harder.

You're right, the destroyer was very helpful.

im the type of person i have to buy every single study material available or otherwise i'll feel like im missing out on something..sometimes that's bad and sometimes that's good....

but the thing is that i dont want to take the dat and not do good and in the back of my mind have the thought that "Maybe just maybe if i bought so and so book i might of done better"...

So therefore i went ahead and bought everything:
materials from kaplan class which took
dat destroyer
topscore
achiever
examkrackers (bio,chem,orgo,1001orgo,1001chem)
princeton review mcat book
schaum's review for bio and chem...
campbell for bio

and honestly i think that for chem and orgo dat destroyer and kaplan r really helping me a lot..and so is destroyer...

i really think it is worth it because it's really helping me review and understand problems written in a different way which make u think more...

that's just my 2 cents😛 :luck:
