Hello All,

I am thinking about purchasing the DAT Destroyer next month and plan on taking the DAT this July 2009. Right now I am studying using Gold Standard Videos, Campbell Biology, Organic Chemistry for Dummies, and old notes from classes. I want to make a 22 or above on the DAT. This is a big jump from making a 14 on the test . How can I do this? What makes the DAT Destroyer so different? One of my friends tell me that it is just a book of questions with solutions and is not benefical. Another person tells me that is helped them jump from a 16 to a 22. But I hear everyone saying that it is a life saver. Please give me some input on this product.

It might help, it might not.

START WITH THE BASICS. The DAT tests your understanding of the BASICS. Nothing on the test is hard.

good luck

I heard the DAT Destroyer is great and helps a lot. However, you shouldn't just use the Destroyer. The problems in the Destroyer are harder than most so some review before you use it would be good.

Destroyer seems a bit expensive for "just a book". I recently got it and haven't used it heavily yet, but with the number of questions it has (several hundred in each section) and the thorough answers it gives (often a paragraph for one answer), I'm sure it will be nothing but beneficial.

Try Organic Chemistry as a Second Language, supplemented with the Kaplan Blue Book. Then practice & LEARN from Destroyer, especially the mistakes you make on it. Do the same for GChem, minus the OSL book of course. Practice with some Topscore and Achiever (even though they are harder than the real thing) and you should be set. Campbells for Biology is good, so I think you are on the right track for what you want but be sure to invest a LOT of time into studying.

I'm not sure what you meant by 14 whether it was a diagnostic score or the real thing but I got sort of the same thing on the Kaplan diagnostic. Here's one very important tip though: don't let whiners who got low scores discourage you. The people who make comments like "Biology is impossible to study for" and "I used Destroyer, went through it twice, and only got a 19" in my opinion are making statements that may have been what they thought of the exam but certainly isn't representative of what most people feel. As long as you learn to see the good, not the occasional bad, and learn from those who have scored well (and not from those who have negative comments about the DAT, since their opinions are probably pessimestically biased) then you will be set.

if youre going to pick up the destroyer try and buy it used. ive already stated a few other times (today infact) that i dont think its worth the price. it serves as a good diagnostic or polisher, but if you score 14 on a diagnostic it wont do anything other than frustrate you. i think it serves as good practice for people who are already good to go and just want to stay sharp. as far as legitimate review, i think its better to just reread your books and do those problems. like i said, buy it used. ill be selling mine after 03/03 when i have my test.
