Hey everyone! I just finished with my DAT yesterday and I am so happy that I finished too. This is my third time taking it, so I was a little pressured. The only thing I am worry about is my PAT because it is so low. Well anyway, here is my scores. Btw, I will give a breakdown of each sections later on when I am free 🙂

PAT --- 14 :scared:
QR ---- 17
RC ---- 21
Bio ---- 19
GC ---- 21
OR ---- 17

TS ---- 19
AA ---- 19

GPA of 3.39
SciGPA 3.25

I job shadowed with a general dentist for 38 hours, volunteered at the hospital for 100 hours, and have done a polar bear research 🙂

so what do you guys think of my chance of getting into these schools: NYU, NSU, UF, TEMP, TUFT, BUFFALO, LOUISVILLE, VCU?

and I want to take this time to thanks everybody for their support, especially nze82 and dl9006 for your word of encouragement!

I think that 14 in PAT will hurt your chances. If that PAT was a higher than the cutoff I think you would have a chance at NYU, Boston, and possibly Tufts. I suggest a retake.

not bad at all,

but it was your THIRD time taking it?

Let's say if you are given a chance of another retake, what would you do to improve your score?

Your Bio is amazing, How did you study for it and what happened to the PAT?

He can't since it is his third time taking it, now he has to submit an appeal to the ADA if he wants to take it a fourth time....i think

I don't mean to be harsh. But PA is not the only section you should be worried about. Your O-chem and QR are also low. People will tell you QR is not important and schools won't care about it, but that's only when your other scores are very impressive. Unfortunately, your scores are very average.
I'm not sure whether or not schools will frown on applicants, who take the DAT for the 4th time, but from what I understand, if you plan on retaking the exam for the 4th time, ADA requires you to write them a letter and explain the circumstances that have led to your poor performance on the three previous exams.
Try to consult with some of the admission coordinators from various schools and see what they suggest.
Hopefully, things will work out for you.
Good luck👍

you should get at least 100 hours of shadowing with a dentist. or even 50. 38 is too low because there are schools that really look into how many hours you've put into shadowing in the career you're going into.

Shadowing is overrated....

I've seen plenty of people get in with minimal shadowing and DAT scores of 22+.

I would improve try to improve on my PAT and Organic. I don't know how to practice for the QR. I am quite good with math but I can't do words problem. I am not able to comprehend when I am pressure for time

Basically for biology, I read kaplan first, then cliff ap bio and try to answer a bunch of questions on the destroyer and on the practice test. But if you really want to score over a 19, then you should probably read schaum.

I read the information before my 3 try. It really doesn't sound that hard. I believe all you have to do is produce a letter of rejection.

I apologize, but I don't understand you. Could you repeat what you just say? 🙂

yea, I do agree with you. I was quite shock that my pat and organic is low. Usually, I score really high in those sections but I guess my eye bothered me a little bit so I loss focus on the PAT. But for the organic section, I thought I did really well, but I didn't expected to get a 17.

I did contact some school in the past and some of them do honor score after the 3rd try. But I think it is quite tedious to do an appeal with ADA. Are you sure that you only have to write a letter for the appeal because I think you have to do something else?

btw, how do I contact an admission coordinator? do I go to the school site or something? Thanks!

What were your break downs for the first two attempts?

Bio/Chem/OC/PAT/RC/QR/TS/aA
1st --> 17/15/18/18/15/16/16/16
2nd --> 16/15/16/16/16/15/16/16

I apologize for the late reply. I am quite disappointed in my past DAT score, so I was quite happy when I got a 19 for TS and AA, but the current PAT is an eyesore to me though and I really don't know what to do now. I guess I will go ahead and submit the supplementary and pray. If it was meant for me to become a dentist, then it was meant to be, so there is no use of worrying now 🙂

I'm not 100% sure about this, so I don't want to give you any false info. I'm sure you'll find the details of this process on ADA's website. If I find anything, I'll make sure to post it for you.

Just go to the school website, look under contacts, and see who is the admission coordinator.

Thank you so much for your help! I will try to contact the coordinator and tell them of my situation. I hope I get in for this cycle because I really have a hard past, so I don't want my past sacrifice to go in veins.
