GPA 3.55 science gpa 3.3, two co-authorship in two recent publications, 1000+ dental experience, most of which was spent in the lab, learning how to make full and partial dentures.
BIO: not necessarily random, but definitely more basic than i anticipated. maybe 2-3 questions that actually tested some detail. they basicaly test u based on whether u know all the subjects that they tell u to study. details are not neccessary, but they helped me make a couple of educated guesses.
GCHEM: once again, tested the fundementals, and i only got 2-3 calculation questions, which were already set up for u in the equasion, u just have to make sure u can set it up.
OCHEM: Not too many reactions, and the questions were all over the place. i only got one ir question which didn't even test the absorbances!! so it was once again, test ur knowledge based on the fundementals.
PAT: i would say it is identical to CDP except the keyholes were easier
QR: very close to CDM in the type of questions asked, but much easier to set up and solve. i got a 16 b/c my strategy was to do all of the questions that i knew and to leave the word problems to the end...wich worked, i had time to make sure i had some sort of answer for all of the question...but i'm the last person who should be giving advice in MATH! Last time i had math was AP Calculus in high school.
RC: i got really lucky, b/c i never even got a 20 in my practice tests. I wasn't really surprised with the subjects that showed up, b/c thay had already been mentioned in sdn. i was planning to read about them ahead of time, but decided to focus more on reviewing my sciences instead. which worked out, b/c they were pure search and destroy.
ok is used Destroyer, Kaplan online, CDP, CDM, Cahd's review (saved my life), wikipedia, and Schaum's biology for stuff that kaplan didn't cover well, but it was definately overkill.
So, i could not even imagine the scores i got. whenever i tested my self, i wouldn't get more than 19 average, but the tests were also overkill. i went into the test ready to fail, i didn't have the slightest bit of confidence, but i did something that i think helped me tramendously! i used the 15 mins of tutorial to calm my self down, get focused. i also did a lot of praying, and i mean some serious praying, which i believe helped me to calm down, and be content w/ whatever my score was going to be.
Now i'm going to become a grandpa and put my two cents in!
I studdied my butt off this time around. this is my second time taking the test, and the first time i didn't get n e thing above 17 except bio and PAT (21, 21 respectively). last time i didn't study much because my ego didn't allow me to sit down and actually study. but this time around, i started w/ 5hrs a day, and near the end, i was studying upto 10hrs a day. now keep in mind that i am a crammer and had never studied for a test other than the night before!but that is irrelevant. i guess my point is, it doesn't matter that some ppl say that they didn't study much or that thaey only studied for a month or some other type of b/s...what it comes down to is that u just need to be disciplined, focused, and keeping ur mind on the goal. If u wonna get into dental school, then buckle down and sit on ur ass and study untill u can't feel it n e more. whenever u get pankake ass, then u can say u have studied enough...j/k
oh, and remember it is ur future on the line, and u don't wonna have to take the test more than once! everyone is different, u just gotta find ur groove! and now it is time for this grandpa to go to sleep, because 3 onths of sleep deprevation had finally caught up w/ him!
