Oh man am I glad to be done!

So here's my story and I hope i can help some people taking this treacherous journey for themselves!

I started out knowing very vaguely about this beast called the DAT. I started researching what needed here on SDN and found the 8 week DAT guide and Decided to use that. I went to ebay and Amazon and bought the following materials.

Cliffs AP Bio
DAT Destroyer
Math Destroyer
Kaplan Blue Book
Chads Videos 😍
Anki flashcards- awesome idea btw will give more details later.
Crack DAT PAT

Lets goooooo
So I started out on my journey studying the first two weeks of Christmas break 10 hours a day Condensing the first 4 weeks of the Study guide into 2 weeks. I took notes on everything from biology and chads videos took the quizzes all that. A little background on me. Junior have taken all my pre reqs and have one semester left till I graduate. Im a good student and have about a 3.7 and 3.5ish Sci GPA. Got B's in OChems and A's in all the other Chems but here is the kicker. I took my gen chems at a community college and didnt try at all and never learned anything hahaha. Annnnyyywayys After school continued I studied my but off for the next 2 months 3-4 hours on the weekdays going over stuff and on the weekends 6-7 hours. The last 2 weeks i studied every waking moment up till the night of the test. I focused this whole time on sciences untill the last week when I started Math Destroyer( I SUUUUCKKK at math) this thing saved my ass. I also only did 2 reading practice test the night before the exam.
I went through the Destroyer twice making flashcards on everything I didnt know. Great material I must say, and overall the questions were similar on every thing. I also Did PAT about 3 weeks before and ended up doing 4 tests out of 10... GET THE CHEAPER VERSION! Any ways I studied Hard and the night before the Test started. The test center was 45 min away so I stayed with my brother the night before ( He lives in the ghetto because he breezed through college and only has a 30k a year job, thought i was gonna get shot) Anyways.. Right before I was about to go to bed around 10:30 I got a text.... it was my ex girlfriend saying she was late on her period 😱 What a Great F***in time to text me that ****! Anyways I was up till about 1am Talking to her to just find out she was saying it just to get back with me... WOOOWW great job keeping me up on the most important night of my life! But I digressed and also fell asleep. Woke up at 6Am had an instant stress dump the second i Awoke, not fresh, and got ready to leave. After a Cliff Bar and some water I went into the test center. The signed me in and I took another stress dump right before my test started.... needless to say I was really full of stress! So I hopped in a BOOM it started. Spent the first 15 min taking the tutorial and writing out my crosses and stuff for the PAT. Man the test went by so fast and I was so nervous for the whole thing. Mid way through I got a 15 min break........took another dump. FML . I thought I was gonna die lol. Anyways I finished it and this is what I got!

PAT - 19 (69.4%) :meanie:
RC- 19 (67.6 %)
QR- 18 (86.6%)
Bio- 19 (83.5%)
GC- 22 (95.2%)
Ochem- 23 (97.1)😀
TS- 20 ( 91.3%)
AA- 20 (93.4)

( guy who printed out the scores looked down at em and said this " So What Dentist do ya want to be" with a smile " congratulations. )

Well Im happy with my scores almost 94th percentile! Kind of confused though a guy with one more point in the sciences had a 24 on one of his sciences instead of my 23 and got a 22 on his TS also his percentile scores were lower so not sure on that one. He ended up with a 21 but his percentile rank was lower at a (93.0%) which score is better then? Moving on!

RC- only did two practice test and dont care, nobody really does- I just didnt want it to bring my score down to bad.

QR- I Suck at math always have an Math Destroyer saved my ass get it! Had to guess on a few. You really have to get used to the timing. I took 8 test out of the book and memorized all the equations. Timing is everything on this section. My first test I was getting like a 13 or 14 I ended with a 19ish average.

PAT- Crack dat PAT is bomb . Its exactly like the test and also helps you get familiar with the way the actual DAT runs. did 4 test. averaging around a 20. My first test I didnt get to start the last section before time ran out. I cant imagine if I wouldnt of gotten used to the timing and done that on the real thing.

Now the goodies!

Bio- Destroyer and Cliffs are on point.. Make notecards with Anki on EVERYTHING!! I had it on my phone so i looked at em everyday. Also Cliffs is the bomb and has everything you need to know. This section was random as always which sucked because even though I knew a crap ton of Info I still got a 19. I had also taken physiology which helped me out alot. All I can give you is absorb everything you read. It definitely was not an in depth specific question test.

GC ( My Favorite)!- LOVE CHADS VIDEOS! I knew absolute zero about this stuff when I started. If you really just know the equations and basic concepts you will do good on this section. Went through destroyer once and chads practice questions once. Also made a bunch of chemistry Aki flashcards on all of the notes i took on Chads Videos. Chemistry is in my opinion the easiest section by far. There is way less to learn than any other section and can boost your score major!

Ochem- Definatelty surprised it was my highest score . I went through chads and Destroyer twice learned everything I could. Note cards on this as well with ANKI. I also made by hand notecards for all the reactions in Chads and Destroyer and learned them all. Really know the which is more acidic boiling points all that.

In the end I wouldnt leave reading and math to chance, Even though most Dental Schools dont really mind a low math or reading. Above the cutoff around 17 of course. It can really hurt your score. Just think if I wouldnt of got that 23 in Ochem my 20 could of dropped to a 19 and boom life sucks. I think my science scores are strong and getting a 94% on the DAT feels good. So work hard , study hard, and score hard. It will all be ok in the end!!!!!!!!!

P.S funny story the guy I shadow is a Teacher at The local Universities Dental school. Before I left he told me " good luck and get a 20" I said okay see you friday! Now i get to tell him I did it!!! 😀😀😀😀 Thanks SDN you guys rock I couldnt of done it without you!

LOL soo funny ...what a story.. it was all worth it and congratulations.. good job ...cant wait to get done with mine

Congrats!!!!.. Thats awesome that you did so good!.. I bet you don't have anything to worry about when it comes to being excepted!.

Thanks everyone!! and the best part is that I didnt have to spend 1500 like all my friends on a kaplan course! hahah

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, in the fact that i'm having to learn alot of the chem stuff from scratch.. Chad's videos are great and i'm hoping that if I get his videos memorized then i'll be good to go on the DAT.. Was that the case for you? did you feel like by just watching Chad's videos that you were able to do good on the chem sections of the DAT?

And for chem I honestly think its even more basic then what Chad teaches . Memorize it all to be safe and then go through destroyer to practice. I might note cards on ever little chem equation and it didnt take long to memorize them all.
