Dat Done 4/15 Help

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone, Im disappointed in my PAT score but the fact is that I took the DAT without studying AT ALL, cant blame anyone or anything. I simply relied on my having read every science book cover to cover and looked over the PAT as what to expect. I wanted to apply June 1, that is why I rushed it. With a 3.5 sci GPA, including many upper div classes and an average workload of 19 sem units, what are my chances??? Is being young a disadvantage or advantage (currently 19), hope adcomms dont tell me to "take another year to improv app, youre so young", dentistry is and will always be my passion. Specifically interested in my chances at schools like USC, new Western school, and Loma Linda...THX

BTW for those taking it: PAT is light years harder than sample DAT test on ADA website. QR and Sciences were reasonable, RC were all word for word questions, so I have no idea why I did mediocre. Just remember that during the test you feel youre doing fine until you see the scores. (As far as GChem, totally unexpected result)

ok, your PAT is a small problem.
See which schools care for the PAT a lot, that will answer your question.
Some schools won't look at your PAT score twice because they think it really doesn't matter. No one care whether you took 19 units, if you did bad because of that then D-schools will notice you don't know how to pick classes.

As for your age, good question (I am in a similar situation).

Your age can be a deciding factor for dental schools. Most dental schools prefer applicants who are more mature. I know of several people who did two years of pre-dental classes and got into UCSF and UOP. However I also know of someone who has had similar stats like yours that were higher in both RC and QR and got denied from D-school because of his immaturity and age. Depending on where you apply, some schools require either a bachelor's degree of a minimum of 90 course units.

Focus on studying hard right now for another solid 3 months and retake it again.

Taking DAT in July is not that bad, trust me. I took my mine last year in mid August and I was still more than OK. Good luck! 🙂
