I took my DAT today (6/19/13) and got results I was not expecting at all!!!
I'm sooo glad to be finally done and I can enjoy my summer now 😀

PAT 23
QR 23
RC 28
Bio 26
GC 28
OC 29
TS 28
AA 27

sGPA 3.35
oGPA 3.54

Which schools should I apply to?? I haven't made a concrete list yet. Since I'm from CA, I'm thinking UOP UCSF UCLA USC to start with. I'm not sure with my lower than average GPA but high DAT, if I have a good chance at OOS schools.

Materials Used: KBB, 2013 Destroyer (went through once) and Math Destroyer (took the first 5 tests), Cliff's AP Bio, Crack DAT PAT (took first 6), Topscore (tests 1,2), Achiever (3 tests), Kaplan Free Diagnostic Test.

I used the 8-week study plan, but condensed the first four weeks to two weeks. So total study time was 6 weeks. But I did definitely take a few off days. I had to catch up and hated myself for taking the break but I think it was worth it for keeping me sane. And I only went through destroyer once. The last two weeks when I would have went through it for the second time, I did practice tests and read through the notes I took while I was going through the destroyer.

As for using the Destroyer, I would go through how many ever I had to go through, correct them. Then I would go over all the explanations, even the ones I got correct because there is a ton of extra information that I could pick up. I would get binder paper, write down the problem number and summarize info that I don't already know. They were pretty long notes haha but they were SO useful when I reviewed all of them after I was done with the Destroyer.

I think what helped me most was the Destroyers and Cliff's AP Bio and Achiever's PAT.

I've been getting about 18AA on both Achiever and Topscore, so my goal for the real DAT was 20 overall. Something magical happened I guess and I got scores I've been gawking at in breakdowns on sdn hahaa.

During the test, all I was thinking was "omg these questions are hard!" especially in the PAT section. I thought I was going to screw it up big time. The angles were so difficult to distinguish and keyhole was the worst I've ever taken. Hole punching had weird placement of the holes. TFE was my worst section on Crack DAT PAT but it was easier on the real DAT. Pattern Folding was pretty doable too.

Looking back, I should have prepared a bit more for QR because I knew I could have gotten more correct had I just reviewed a few more trig formulas.

Lastly, I just want to say I'm so grateful for this community; it has helped me so much through my studying!! Thank you all so much!!!

how did you do so well on RC? how did you prepare for this section............please share with us!!!

Hmm... honestly, I haven't practiced RC too much. I focused on the sciences so I didn't really have time to go over RC. But I can say that it's a LOT easier than Achiever. Achiever RC is pure hell. I would see the first 2-3 questions and start reading and if I get to a part of the passage that answers any of the first few questions, I answer them and eventually I read through the entire passage. Then I go back to the questions I haven't answered yet and answer those. Pace yourself so that you spend no more than 20 minutes per passage and try to read slowly because the content can be a bit dull and hard to absorb. Hope this helped somewhat!

What was the range on your Bio questions like? Did you feel Cliffs covered pretty much all of it?

wow great scores! Do you mind sharing a breakdown of how you studied? I take the DAT in about 3 weeks. Starting off I used KBB. Now for quick review in the coming weeks im using Barron's and QValt for testing. So far my scores are "ok" in the majority of subjects, but my goal is to score 20- 25 in each section. QR and Ochem are my toughest subjects, so any help you can give I would appreciate! 🙂

My most recent practice scores are (using QVault):

Bio: 20
Chem: 19
Ochem: 16
QR: 14
PAT: 18
RC: 18

I would say AP Cliff's definitely covered most of it. But there were few questions that were more applied thinking, such as "if this gene was mutated, what would happen" etc. I studied physiology hard because I haven't taken physio yet but there were barely any :/ but then it might just be the version of test I had...

I've only taken the first tests from Qvault as they were free (no PAT). And got Bio22,GC21,OC19,RC20. For QR, I thought Math Destroyer was great. Ochem was one of my weak points too, but on the real DAT it was a LOT easier than I thought. Basic SN/E1/2 questions, basicity/acidity, simple electrophilic and nucleophilic reactions, etc. I think Destroyer for OC was overkill; if you've paid attention in ochem class it should be cakewalk.

I think your qvault scores are a good start! QR can be drastically improved upon with lots of practice and managing your time well. So just go HAM on any QR practice exams you can get your hands on!

Awesome scores! congrats 👍

could you post your Achiever scores per test if possible??

I have a question for you guys.

I have a pretty low GPA but how much would my DAT scores make up for them??

sGPA is about 3.35 and oGPA is about 3.54.

Which schools would I have a chance in??

I still haven't made up my mind on which schools to apply for...

I think their're gonna love your DAT enough to don't heavily weigh your GPA.
Congrats BTW.

Have your DAT scores updated on AADSAS yet? I took the test the same day and I am still waiting. The results should be to schools before they look at apps to much but I know some schools, like Case, are reviewing apps now an sending interview invites for early Aug. The waiting is no fun haha

No it hasn't uploaded yet... I'm hearing it can take 2-4 weeks so I'm trying to wait patiently but yes, it's not fun waiting! I'm checking AADSAS everyday hahaha

Awesome scores!

USC and UCLA are good schools. Do you know when they usually make their decisions? With your scores, I doubt that you will have a difficult time being accepted.

I'm not sure about when acceptances come out for those schools but I've searched SDN for when they first sent out interview invites last year and UCLA was beginning of October and USC was mid August.

Happy that you completely blew past your own expectations in a big way. I can definitely relate to scoring 18AA on the Achiever and Topscore and having the same mentality going in. Congrats!

Thank you!! Yeah, I've never been so nervous for a test before in my life and the scores just shocked me when I got them :]
