Overall I feel pretty good about it, I just wish my chems were a point or 2 higher. I just graduated and work full time, so I really didn't study much, but I know people will want to know what I used and a little rundown so here ya go:

-Bio- Barron's AP Bio 2007 (I read through it cover to cover once), and Destroyer (once). There were some crazy random questions that I never even thought to study but not too bad overall.

-GC- Kaplan red book from 2003, half of Destroyer. About half my test was computations and half was concepts, again not too bad. Lots on LeChatliers principle.

-OC- Half of Kaplan red book, half of Destroyer. I honestly thought this section was ridiculously easy, but I guess not. Only about 5 of them were predict the product, the rest we conceptual.

-PAT- CDP. My scores on CDP were 23, 21, 20, 20, 24. I thought keyholes, cubes, and patterns were harder on the real DAT but angles, TFE, and hole punching were all a lot easier than CDP.

-QR- Didn't study at all or ever take a practice test. I had about 7 minutes left so I didn't have a time crunch at all. They were mostly word problems but not bad. A lot of crazy exponent questions that I just guessed on and moved on.

-RC- Didn't study or practice at all. Started off reading but the passages were so boring that I couldn't handle it anymore and switched to search and destroy. Absolutely no tone questions.

So now let's talk about my chances, which I don't feel too great about. My GPA is kind of misleading so first I'll break it down by year:

Freshman - 0.654 (yes you read that right)
Sophomore - 2.956
Junior - 3.580
Senior - 3.404

On my transcript I have a 3.4 due to retakes, but since AADSAS sucks and doesn't care about retakes, I'll be applying with a 2.84 overall and 2.81 science👎. Yeah, ouch. I am hispanic and a Nevada resident, so I'm hoping for UNLV. I didn't have many extracurriculars because I worked 40 hours a week while I was take 15 credits a semester year round all through school, but there are a few. I ended up with 55 hours shadowing and got some good LOR's. Anyway, any input you guys would like to throw at me would be great, thanks!

Still hoping for some insight/advice on my chances, so I'm going to post up the schools I'm applying to. I went through them all and picked the ones with lower GPA's to try to optimize my chances:

UNLV (obviously due to NV residency)
UOP
Loiusville
Meharry
Howard
Temple
Marquette
AZ
NYU
USC
Loma Linda
Midwestern

What do you mean AADSAS does not care about retakes? I think what you mean is that they combine your old grade and new one right? its not that they don't look at the new grade at all.....

I know it's gonna hurt, but a post-bac/master and a retake will be needed. If I were you, I wouldn't apply this year. Good luck!

I agree on the post bacc part but why a retake??? not everyone that gets accepted to dental school has an above 20 score for every section.......I think your dats are solid and you got a 19 in QR which most students really struggle on and barely can get a 17 so congrats on that!!!!! your gpa is very very low that is going to be the problem.......you might have a good chance at your state school and howard university........and also temple maybe!........ apply you never know what can happen ......fell very proud of what you did because not everybody can do it!!!! i wish you the best........

A retake?
Is that a joke? He/she has great DAT scores. No need for a retake.

Ignore Emmie's post. This person is obviously high on something! You have solid DAT scores and a decent GPA. You'll most likely get an interview from UNLV. Your DAT/GPA are higher than their average and you're a Nevada resident. I can't guarantee your acceptance, but I can assure you you'll have a good chance of getting interviews.
Don't try to get a definite answer regarding your acceptance from any of the poster. We're all in the same boat and we're all pre-dental students hoping to get in. None of us has ever been on the admission committee. Therefore, all we can do is to look at your stats and state our personal opinions. Notice, however, that most schools have a holistic approach, while reviewing your application. In other words, there are many more factors in addition to your DAT and GPA that will determine whether or not you'll get in.
The most important thing is that YOU feel Good about your results, and that's all it matters.
Just send in your application, sit back and relax, and wait till you get some invitations for your interviews.

Good Luck👍

A retake? Huh? That hasn't even crossed my mind, with a decent GPA I would be in for sure, my DAT scores DEFINITELY are not the issue here. Anyway, thanks to everyone else that gave me some feedback. I've heard of crazier things happening so I'm just going to put in my application and hope for the best. I think as long as I can get an interview to explain myself and they look at my vertical upward trend in grades, I might be able to steal a seat. Thanks again

Sorry, to clarify I meant that they don't care that you retook the class, the old grade still counts. At my school the old grade doesn't go towards your GPA so it makes a huge difference. But yes, AADSAS counts both times you took the class.

"Freshman - 0.654 (yes you read that right)

I have a similiar situation overall gpa 3.2 science 3.1

Freshman - 2.5 science 2.2
Sophomore - 3.5 science 3.7
Junior - 3.6 science 3.8
Senior - tbd

My college will not give me a recommendation.

Ha, turns out I didn't need a retake or post-bac cuz I'm in suckas! Sorry, just thought I would update this thread now that I got my apps in and do a tiny bit of late celebrating. Best of luck to all

Good Job Hopefully I can get in somwhere too I got a 3.2 got DAT in January and I have a Biochem final in 5 hours

how long did u study for and how many hrs a day for you to obtain those scores? because I'm kinda stuck right now, and I have interviewed only @ 1 school but I'm on their waiting list and I've been told to retake the DAT b4 April 1! What do u think?

I only studied for 1 month, about 2-3 hours a day tops. Not as much as I would have liked, but I had just graduated and the last thing I wanted to do was school stuff. I don't know any of your stats or which school it is, but if they're telling you to retake the DAT I think I would get to studying and redo that beast ASAP.

Congratulations! I'm happy for you 🙂
I just started studying for the DAT. I'm planning on taking the test in May and applying as early as June to all California schools. I really want to get in UCSF, but I know it is very competitive.

Good luck..

lol @ the person who said "retake and post-bac" and then you get in, just goes to show you that DS is not all about GPA like everyone thinks. It's about a lot of other things as well. GPA was on low side but retake??? common. Anyways gj dude👍
