Well, this may be the first (maybe second) time I have ever posted on this site; however, I have utilized it to the fullest in preparing for the DAT. Thanks to all for the good tips and overall advice. If every predent knew of this site, I feel dental school competition would drastically increase via scores, etc...(fools must never type "dental school" or "DAT" into a Google search)

I took the exam May 2010 and applied last cycle. Waitlisted at 2 schools, nothing yet (and have written off the idea of some miracle taking place this cycle)

May 2010:

PAT- 17
QR- 14
RC- 18
Bio- 18
G chem- 19
O chem- 18
TS- 18
AA- 17

Studied the past month since getting out of school. Some of the concepts I really had to learn again because I took these classes so long ago it seems like, especially Orgo.

June 2011:

PAT- 22
QR- 17
RC- 20
Bio- 18 (This section was beyond random, I knew I didn't do well)
G chem- 20 (Think I missed a couple oddball conceptual questions)
O chem- 22 (3 questions concerned me, other than that, all good)
TS- 20
AA-19

gpa's: 3.58/3.55

I am not going into a detail about my breakdown, unless you would like to read the same thing over again for about the 300th time or more. I will say my Bio score was kind of upsetting. I am a Bio major, but sometimes I feel this may make Bio harder in an odd way. I just feel like its very general and as a Biology major I have heard so much more terminolgy and such over the years. These very generalized topics seem to blurr things together too much. I would really enjoy the DAT bio section if it was focused more on physiology, embryology, and a couple topics.

Although, I will comment on a thing or two. I actually did Crack Dat PAT the first time and obviously didn't perform well. My QR score was miserable low the first time, and not much better this time, but I never studied for it because I was way more concerned on re-educating myself on sciences (and because they obviously stand out and count for more)

This time I changed a couple things, i.e. Chad's and Topscore.

One thing I would really like to say is NEVER try judging your score off of practice exams. By far the most similar to anything on the exam is crack dat. I got 14,14,15 on my last achiever and 17,17,18 on my last topscore.
You can't let these tests freak you out, because you either know the information or not come test day. Also, if you don't perform well it makes you beyond axious, and seeing someone else say they got 25+ on their last topscore makes you feel you are nowhere near prepared and worries you more than anything.

Anyways, thanks again to all I've creeped on this past year or so and a GIANT thanks to Chad. I know my scores could have been better, but I am very pleased. Hopefully an acceptance will come this cycle.

Congratulations! You did a good job. You can rest now.
Mine is in 12 days 😱.

Great work on the retake. You fixed old QR + PAT + RC.

19AA + 20TS + 3.5s = recipe for interviews.

All the best.

What a amazing advice. Thank you!!!! 🙂

Really?
Last year I had
20AA + 20 TS + 3.96s = no interview from 14 schools.

thats....awful.... to the point that it doesn't make any statistical sense.

Average matriculation DAT is about 19.2 (lower than yours)
Average matriculation GPAs (overall & science) between 3.4-3.6 (lower than yours as well).

I guess I was unlucky. Hopefully, I am lucky enough to get an acceptance this cycle 🙂.

There's often much more to receiving an interview than scores...EC's, experience, personal statement, LOR, etc...

can i ask what the rest of your application was like? it just seems so weird that you wouldn't get any interviews with those stats.

also, what was your undergrad uni?
