Dat Done!!! 7/18/08 See You Never

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
congrats on your scores!

i just wanted to know which formulas and reactions we need to have memorized for the gchem section. Like, do we need to memorize the value of R and that 1 torr=1 atm, and stuff like that? or do they provide that in the question?

thankss!

I think someone needs to study Gchem a little more 🙂

From what I know we do not need to know R but Im fairly sure we need to know atm, torr, mm Hg...

hehe yes i do need to study it more. it is my biggest enemy. i don't want to leave ANYTHING out, but then again, i don't want to waste time memorizing unnecessary things. thanks man

Thanks for the inspiration. Congrats on the awesome DAT scores!!

quick question- how was the math? how was the trig and probability?

Anyways, go enjoy you summer now!

just so you know 763 torr = 1 atm 😉

probability wasn't bad...just as long as you know the basic type of prob problems..cards,dice, seating 7 ppl 3 different ways..etc.. really basic.
know the trig identities...sin^2x + cos^2x=1 sin2x=2sinxcosx

What did you get on RC?

Great scores and congrats. I am in the same situation as you are, so I can relate. I am non-trad in that I am 43 years old, so some of this stuff goes wayyyyyyy back. I do have a good foundation in science because I work as a medical technologist right now, so I hope this helps. Do you think DAT Destroyer is right on target for the exam? I feel that my weakest areas right now are math and PAT. I have crackPAT, but I still do not feel confident with TFE, keyhole, or punches. Can you give me any advice?

well if his other scores are 19, 21, 22, 22 and with an AA score of 21, then what could his RC score be? Answer: anywhere from 19-23. Do that math!!! This sounds like a potential question from the QR section...

great job bj, i hope i do nearly as well!

jaypea, i know you asked bj, but one tech that really helped my pat scrore out was getting hole puching up. i took advice i found here on sdn, make a tick tak toe grid and put x's where holes are punched, then add or remove holes as you are unfolding the paper.

math, i would just do destroyer math, topscore, and achiever math. i think destroyer along with all the other materials i mentioned should be good.

pat:

keyhole: there is usually one distinction-short side, angle, square..that sticks out from the shape. if you can focus on that and compare with the answer choices you should be fine.

tfe and punches: take a look at barrons for techniques...ie line counting, and I SWEAR..IF YOU DO ENOUGH HOLE PUNCH YOU WILL BE ABLE TO fold fast in your head. and on my exam crack the pat punches were crazier than the real thing. i was scoring mostly 18's on crackdatpat..however, i did score 20 and 21 on my last two crackdatpat tests. there were two punches i coudlnt figure out on the real thing, so i actually drew a tic tac toe. that took too long and i personally wouldn't suggest it.

bottom line: if u get an at least an 18 on math and pat, but ROCK the sciences you should be fine.

also, for everyone reading...i think destroyer is on target for the exam, but if u just want to take this test once, then exhaust all your resources...dont be cheap, or just try to do the miniumim to get by. trust me, if u have to take the exam again, youll regret not doing everything you possibly can.

this is the most important test of your life. act like it is.

I actually followed your advice about READING THE FREAKING QUESTION lol.. I usually read questions so fast and I make silly mistakes. On the real thing I swear I was reading questions (esp bio) so slowly it was like 1 word/ sec and analying info in my brain while reading, it worked out for me!! So ppl READ THE FREAKING QUESTION!!!!!

something so simple yet useful right?

Congrats to both Miss ToothLady and BjPenn! Excellent scores.

Just wanted to ask you both since you took the test something about PAT. I am practicing with Crack and am finding that by the time I get to cube counting and pattern folding, I am so rushed for time that I make dumb mistakes with cubes and don't have enough time for pattern.

Is there time on the actual test to skip to these sections first? Is it possible to do this? Or does that take up a lot of time?

Thanks.

yea...i found myself running out of time too. the last 3 crack the pat..i decided switch the order based on what i thought was easiest.

1. cubes
2. pattern folding
3. angels
4.keyhole
5. tfe
6. folding.

so when i got to tfe, i only had 15 min left to do basically 30 questions..freaking out..i decided to just go as fast as i can and serously MARK IT if you find urslef spending like more than a minute on it.

i wasnt able to do this order on the real thing.well i tried by clicking furiously.they woudlnt let me review until i finished all 90 questoins..this was only on the pat section. so i had to basically do 1-90. i got mostly 18s on practice, but i did get a 19,20,and 21..but i dont think they schools look at pat much anyways.

oh, part of my advice comes from my sister who went through all this last year and is starting dental school next month.

bottom line: ROCK SCIENCES but get at least 18 on math, pat, and rc and you will be set.

BJ,

So just to clarify, are you saying that it's not possible to skip to cubes and pattern folding first?
