Varsity Football player, 4 years, academic recognition
Over 115+ hours shadowing with gen. dent., oral surgeon, and U of M Ann Arbor VA healthcare system dental clinic (all types of dentistry, just bounce around to different rooms when I feel like it.)
Used max number of EC's in AADSAS

So, I studied my butt off since I got done with school early may. Used the KAP BB and ADA practice exam 2007. many other free practice exams by section, etc. Youtube videos, the internet in general, and also bought a Princeton Review study book as well, didnt have time to get into that one, but took the 2 included practice exams with that book as well. In total, I took 5 full length practice exams before my real one and many other sectional practice exams, all timed.

I have to say I am not the happiest with my scores, but I honestly feel that as a whole my application looks competitive.

I am a Michigan resident and so far have applied through AADSAS to U of M, U of Detroit Mercy, LECOM, Marquette, and Case Western Reserve, Ohio. Going to do at least 3-4 more just searching for the best out of state chances.

Any opinions on my chances guys?

The only section I have an excuse for is the QR. I was on question 20 with 5 minutes left...and by that point of the test, youve been staring at a computer screen for too long. I know the 17 doesnt look good, but I am hoping ADCOMS will look past standardized test scores.

Thanks, and good luck to all 2015 applicants!!

I like your chances. You didn't do too poorly on any section. QR is usually not as important as the others, too.

So congrats! Time to celebrate (if you haven't already)

Thanks! and yes this 4th of July weekend was MUCH needed to blow off some steam! 'Merica

Thanks, yeah I would have to agree with you there lol. From other dental students I've talked to, they said being an athlete in undergrad was a big topic in their interviews/helped them be a more competitive applicant, so I'm hoping that's what it can do!

Two of the dental students in rotation at a clinic I was shadowing at were football players, and they were definitely some of the most personable students I met! No doubt they will be great dentists, and you seem to be on that route yourself. Good job

I'm sure you'll make it in; very well rounded app even though you didn't get 22+ lol
Thanks man, I appreciate the support. I know all I see is everyone on here getting 30's in sections when the national average is an 18??

How did you get in contact with the VA dental clinic at UofM. I have been trying to shadow there for a while, if you could inform me on this I would really appreciate it.

My girlfriend's mom works in the oncology department of the hospital and knew the best person to talk to there (Dr. Crum). She set me up with the volunteer services office and they basically said go ahead and go to the dental clinic, tell them you are there to observe and they were all very welcoming. Dr. Crum told me to come back whenever I want. So basically, if you haven't I would start by contacting the volunteer services office and explain your situation. Since I technically was a volunteer they had me do paperwork one day when it was slower, but I got to see what the resumes/folders looked like of recently graduated dentists applying for their residency there, so that was a huge plus in my eyes.
