Hello everyone,
I took the DAT today and it was my 2nd time taking it. Here are my scores and I’ve indicated my scores from last year in parentheses.

PAT: 16 (15) / QR: 17 (17) / RC: 26 (19) / BIO: 26 (21) / GC: 24 (20) / OC: 21 (22) / TS: 24 (21) / AA: 23 (20)

For PAT, the keyholes were slightly more difficult than Crack and I also had a few weird pattern folding problems. The chemistries were pretty straightforward. Biology had quite a few random and very specific questions but luckily I had gone over the material and was able to make educated guesses on the questions I was unsure of. Math was ok but I was running short on time and ended up guessing on a lot of questions.

My main sources for studying were the ExamKrackers MCAT books for the science sections and Destroyer. I also went over Kaplan and Schaums quickly. I also took two practice tests from Topscore (both of which I think were harder than the real DAT). I highly recommend ExamKrackers for a good foundation and the Destroyer to fill in any gaps in understanding the material. Crack was also highly useful for PAT but I don’t know what happened on today’s exam since I was averaging 20 on the Crack tests. Anyways, I hope I’ve helped someone out with this advice and thanks to all of you for offering your advice on this forum. Do you think my PAT and QR scores will hurt me? I got one interview last year with no acceptances so I’m hoping to have a better chance this year.

Great improvement! scores look great to me. PAT is the only one a little low. My QR will probably be about where yours is. ( i take tomorrow).

how many CDP tests did you take? you were averging 20? what section of PAT seemed different?

no acceptances? ;( whats ur gpa? where did u apply to? i guess 15 on pat is the only thing that stopped you.. just apply to schools that dont care about PAT- call them and ask fi 16 is ok for them.. ur other scores r so good! im jealous 😀 good job!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys! My gpa is 3.1 overall and science is a 2.9 so I really needed to score well to help me out. I hope I will have a good chance this year! I took a whole CDP test everyday during the last 2.5 weeks up to the exam. I thought keyholes and pattern folding were a lot harder on the real test than on CDP. TFE and angles to be the same as crack and hole punching/cube counting were slightly easier.

I started studying around end-mid May but I moved to a different city and got a new job in June so I was a little distracted during end of May-early June. I worked part-time and studied for about 4-5 hours after work (on my good days) and from 6-8 hours for the other 4 days of the week. The last 1.5weeks I took off work and studied around the clock for about 10-12 hours a day. It helped that I had all my notes already from last year's studying session so this is why I was able to study. I'm going to celebrate now but I will be back to answer all your other questions later. 🙂🙂

congrat..i'm jealous .I had your first DAT score last year. retaking it end of august..any tip on RC?

Your determination and hard work has definitely paid off...except in PAT and QR. But QR is not as important and i'm sure you can get away with a 17. But a 16 in PAT is another completely different story.

WOW great improvement!! Good luck in this cycle, you're bound to get in somewhere with those DAT scores! 🙂

Thanks again guys. I worked really hard and am glad it paid off (except for PAT). Since a lot of you are asking about RC I thought I'll just post it here. I really didn't do much to prepare for the section since I had been making 22's on Topscore. All I can say is that I used search & destroy! I had 2 science passages and 1 was on on language or something like that. I also wasn't frapped so that was good. I mentally prepared myself for RC a few minutes b4I stopped my break time and told myself to just get ready to search & destroy. I think it's a waste of time to read the whole psg 1st so I just went str8 to the questions. I also like to read non-academic related stuff b4 bed as a way to wind down and had been reading a few articles I found interesing in the newspaper real quick in the mornings and I think this may have helped me (even though I didn't realize it would). I did get a few tone & inference questions but by the time I got to those I had been skimming the psg so much that I basically got a feel for the author's tone. So yea, basically search & destroy (worked for me at least), try to read stuff that interests you on your own (it can only be for like 10 min per day but it may help), and just be prepared to expend energy on this section and attack each passage. I basically read each question (and sometimes about 2-3xs) and then quickly skimmed/scanned the passage with the goal of just finding the answer I needed. This strategy worked for me, but others may be different. I hope this helped!! Good luck guys! 🙂 You can do it!
