I know that my score is pretty much average compared to people here on sdn, but I still wanna post them and share my experience hopefully it'll be helpful in some ways..
Materials: destroyer, schaum's bio, topscore, destroyer, textbooks for reference, crackdatpat
Time: 7 weeks (6-7hr/day except sat. sunday studied about 3hr/day)
Bio: be prepare to see quite a few application questions, I studied this subject the most and the score is what I anticipated. I feel like it's harder to get good score on bio than gchem and ochem
GChem: 1/2 conceptual, 1/2 calculations, I didn't have any setup-type questions, all needed to be calculated to the final answer, took lots of time (i'm so used to using calculator)
OChem: I just took Ochem last semester, so everything is still fresh, didn't study much for this
QR: hard!!!! I had at least 15 word problems, and 4-5 trig questions, I didn't study much for math although I know that i'm not good at it => regret...
Reading: pretty much as I expected, din't study anything for this section, I don't even know how to prepare for this section, just did 2 reading on topscore. I'm happy with my reading score since i'm ESL
Pat: level of difficulty about the same as crack in most aspects, just hole punch is alitte easier than crack, everything else is the same( i always suck at angle ranking, usually got only 6-7 right out of 15, i guess i just got the same as the real dat or even worse...)
For achiever: I got around 18 in all subject including pat
Topscore: average 19-20, for pat 20-21
crack pat: around 16 on first few test, consistently got 19-20's, the highest is 21
And here the real dat scores:
Pat: 18 ( a little disappointed...)
QR: 17 (I know it's bad but anticipated)
Reading: 20
Bio: 20
Gchem: 19
Ochem: 27
TS: 21
AA: 21
Please give me some inputs, Do you guys think i should retake esp my QR is so bad. I want to but don't think i have enough time for it (3month requirement!) I guess that I just go ahead and submit my application, if not accepted anywhere this cycle then I would retake. happy to answer any questions that u guys have.

Nice scores!

Your AA and TS are above average and PAT is still competitive, if you have a decent gpa 3.4~ and good extra curriculars. You should get some interviews for sure. =D

Good Luck

the problem is my good gpa came from a community college (science gpa 3.9) I had a business degree at a cal state university, I just took science courses required like gchem, ochem bio, physics and math. do you think they would consider a 3.9 at a jc comparable to a 3.5 of a good school?

Ok, what grades did you get for your science classes in university?

21 is quite high, good job.
I think you are in great shape.
What schools do you have in mind.

good luck

they'll combine both of the gpas.... but weigh the university gpa lil' more....

I think you're good to go.... just own up those interviews!

Ok, so I reread what he said, it seems he has 3.9 everything...
So, IMO, most schools will say you proved yourself with your high DAT and you deserved a high gpa. Some schools might toss you out based on your CC classes.

I didn't have any science course at university, oh, actually 1 avanced ge "geology" and got a B, as for other business-courses I got decent gpa around 3.3, last semester I took one upper-division biochem at university and got A.
For the reading, I got one hard passage, 2 ok passages, according to different versions of the test, I don't thind search and destroy really a good technique, because I got lots of tone questions so u have to read. Howerver, reading and try to understand everything is hard with time constraint, so I use combination of both
For bio there's a few weird questions that i still don't know the answers after looking thru my texts. I guess if you are a bio majors then you're good to go because after so many bio course you would have the knowlege to integrate and answer those kinds of questions, I took only bio1 and 2 and that's it.

only one log question, i'm not afraid of this one, since log mostly involved with pH calculation, practice a litte like 1/2 hour then you would know how to do with it. For example : conc. H+ = 3 ,then pH = antilog 3 = 1.0x10-3. or, log(3.5 x 10^-7 = 7 - log3.5 = 7- .5 ~ 6.5

Huh?? I am not sure what is going on here... are you saying to prac log problems like that?

for the "calculation part" of log then that's all u need to know, ofcourse u still need to understand acid/base concepts in order to solve those chem questions w/ pH, hope it makes sense....

QUESTION: How did you go from 1*10^=3
to
3.5 * 10^=-7

(i am not good with logs... )

i understand

3.5 *1-^-7 = 7 - log 3.5 by the theorem

but how is log 3.5 = .5? how do you guesstimate that??

so fi they give us conc of H+ and that is it... this is how you would go about doing it?

sorry for all the questions, i tried looking it up in my kaplan book but I still am not sure I get it.

priyerz,

just know log 10 =1 and log 1= 0
7-log 3.5 = ?
so you can change this equation to 7-1=6 but since 3.5 is far away from 10 you'll know your answer is probably closer to 7 than 6.

log 3.5 is less than log 10 (so less than 1) but greater than log 1 (greater than 0). your answer will lie inbetween 7 and 6. I really doubt the DAT will give you 2 options such as 6.7 and 6.4 and then ask you to pick.

ohh, makes it a lot easier to calculate. heh 😳
