First off, I want to thank everyone for being so driven in your studies. Discovering SDN has been a blessing in disguise despite the nerve wracking questions that are imposed on a daily basis! This is my second time have taken the test and hopefully the last!

For the breakdown, I studied about 3 hours a day for a month and even less the week before. It was kind of hard because I'm also working full time as a dental assistant so I'd get to my studies a little later in the day. Looking in retrospect, I feel destroyer really prepared me for ochem and kind of for gchem. Schaum's was a bit dense for me, but helped with the bio studying. I briefly skimmed the kaplan BB, but spent about a total of 2 days using it. I used Achiever and Topscore as a test bank of questions for the natural science and QR only (I didn't do any of the other sections). I knew from last year TS and Achiever should be taken with a grain of salt. TS and Achiever scores are not representative of your actual scores so don't freak out, or in some people's cases don't get too overconfident. I also used CDP for PAT review...worth every cent.

CDP Tests: (tests 1-10)
21, 21, 20, 18, 23, 22, 21, 21, 22, 23

Wish I did better on the PAT, but given that the keyholes were a heck of a lot harder than I expected, I'm satisfied. 🙂

Last year's scores/Current Scores
Bio: 17/19
Gchem: 18/19
OChem: 21/21
PAT: 17/21
RC: 18/21
QR: 19/19
TS: 18/19
AA: 18/20

I just graduated from Cal with a 3.1 GPA. My GPA is definitely the weakest part of my application and hope my DAT scores will at least give me a chance somewhere! I have a lot of community service hours, shadowing hours, surgical assisting hours (paid), and now dental assisting hours (paid), great letters of rec, basic life support certification, surgical assisting certification, and dental radiology license. I respect the SDN community the most amongst all the predents I know...you're opinions would mean a lot to me....what do you think my chances are? If you have any questions, feel free to post them up...as long as they aren't exam questions I'd be open to answering them to the best of my knowledge! 👍

Good job! I think you should have a good chance as long as you apply to the right schools. Good luck! :luck:

dont worry i know students that got in with 2.9 with awesome DAT marks

good job!
A lot of people don't know a 3.1 in Cal isn't really a 3.1 🙂
Hopefully, adcoms will know...

great scores bud!! very consistent and no weak spots as far as scores. your GPA is low (from a great school though), but im pretty sure you will get a good amount of interviews if you apply to the right places. our stats are kinda similar so at least i hope so haha!!

They'll definitely know. Between the good scores and all the experience, I'd say your application looks really good.

I agree about your GPA being on the low side, but it is from a top school. You also have a great resume! I'll be pulling for you man, you definitely deserve to get in somewhere.

yea...I'm not sure if I should consider applying to a post bacc or a master's since it seems like my application has some weak spots. Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement 👍

I would apply to a 1-year master's program just to cover my butt. If you don't get into d-school this cycle it'll be because of your GPA (assuming your LORs are good), so you could prove to them that you can handle graduate level courses and succeed in them though the 1-year masters.

These are great scores, espescially considering that you studied less then others for it. You definitely did great. How did you balance working full time and studying? Did you feel overwhelmed at times?

Yea, it was a REALLY hard thing to do balancing work and studies out. A little about myself...I usually go out and drink with friend's every thurs, fri, sat, and recover on sundays. Giving all that up was a big deal for me. My usual day consisted of waking up around 6:30am and working from 8am-6pm then studying from 6-9pm-ish. You can do it...put your mind to it and you'll do great! At first I was exhausted right after work and it was really tough for me to just study right afterward, but after a week or so I got used to the schedule and it became routine. I'm sure you can do it...afterall, you're an SDNer, which puts you near the top of the applicant lists 😉
