im also an immigrant and terrible at reading. but some how i got through the DAT.
i also have the same problem i cant sit my ass down and study. USE CAFFINE it works for some people.. im sure since you got low scores this time you will already have enough motivation to do better and study for longer periods of times... you need to have focus for minimum of 2 hours to not get tired on the DAT. and then break and then some more....... practice this with topscore and achiever.
study schedule??
Study Kaplan, GC, OC, QR, RC and PAT........ although some of it is not like the real test, it isn't too bad.
Now its time to study Bio.... I read Schuam's biology review cover to cover... but the AP cliffs book is also good enough ... schuam's goes into minute detail(not needed)
after you do this.. sign up for DAT again (i don't know how long the study listed above will take you)
after you sign up for dat.... do topscore, and achiever (don't let their scores discourage you, as I was scoring 15-18 avg on all the sections)
understand why you got the questions wrong on topscore and achiever
once you have done the first two tests in Topscore and Achiever... start practicing on the DAT destroyer book (it will really destroy your confidence... but i found it a valuable study source. I was missing 5 out of 10 questions in it) finish the entire destroyer... keep pushing the DAT date back if you have to.
once you have finished the destroyer... do the last test on topscore and achiever. then take the DAT later that week.
some how you will have to sit your ass down and study for extended periods of time.... the study listed above took me about 1 year to do...
since you dont have the test takeing stamina... it hurts your other scores which come later in the test, like OC or QR or even RC.. once you get used to reading for extended periods of time, your overall score will improve. I did this by forcing my self to read anything i could get my hands on, from reading novels and news, to reading SDN and schuam's.
Good luck...
