Hey guys,
I am not an avid poster, but I have been helped out by this site a lot so I thank you. Here is my break down:
PA : 19
QR : 15
RC: 21
BIO: 24
GC : 23
OC: 20
TS: 22
AA: 21
Overall the exam was exhausting, but in the end everything worked out (except QR).
Bio: I used destroyer, Kaplan white book, Kaplan online course, schaums
This section was completely random! About 25-30 of the questions are softball questions, very simple biology. However there are around 5 questions which seemed to be ridiculous to me. Thank god Plants were barely touched, if at all. If I had one piece of advice it is to know something about everything, rather than details. Destroyer helped me out by exposing me to random knowledge, so I would recommend it. I used schaums outline in the beginning, but it was way to detailed, however im pretty sure 1-2 questions I got on the DAT were only found in that review book. As I said just read read read its random
GC: This section was mostly concepts and not to many calculations (8 _+), I used Kaplan white book and destroyed. Destroyed helped me out a lot. I know people praise it as gold here, and for GC I would def use it. It focuses on your weak points (if you dont look at the answers) and helps you with calculations. I def recommend it. Kaplan and destroyer are a 1 2 punch in my eyes, Kaplan the info and destroyer the practice.
OC: This section was much easier than destroyer and slightly harder than Kaplan in my eyes. A lot of concepts, however I did get around 8+ reactions. One of the reactions was absolutely ridiculous and I still cant find the reagent in any of the books. I am kind of upset about this score since I think it is def possible to get a 25+ in this section and GC, without much difficulty. I used destroyer which was much harder than the exam, however not by that much in my eyes. There are a couple of multiple step reactions and those were not covered to much in the white book. In my eyes you need practice for the chemistries and any practice book such as destroyer ect will help you out. There should be no reason to get high 20 in the chemistries if you study 3+ weeks in advance.
PA: I was surprised by this section, as I was getting perfects using online workshops and Kaplan; but I hear this is easier than the actual exam, so I would recommend getting supplement material if you have time. The thing that def killed me was ANGLE RANKING, no lie there were 5 problems that were no more than 5 degree difference between all the angles. The rest was not bad at all, although I thought I was going to get a 21+ on this section, so I must have been over confident.
QR: This section obviously killed me, not because it was hard at all, but because it was fast. It seemed that all my problems involved long division to get decimals and took 2 min plus a problem. I think I got about 90% correct but I left the last 11 blank because I was oblivious to time. WORK FAST that is all I can tell you, I should have guessed on the last 11 and maybe got a 17 but whats done is done. It is not hard material at all just work super fast. I used Kaplan white book, much easier than exam.
RC: Was really worried about this section, and the first passage proved it when I was literally freaking out in the exam. I calmed down skipped the passage and started thinking. I used Kaplans strategy in the beginning, but it kind of gets thrown out the window when you are under stress. I am satisfied with my score here. Honestly I dont know how to study for this expects reading multiple articles a week and getting the gist quick. Oh and you will see some questions that say if statements true or reasoning and to be honest this confused me.
My study regiment was consistent for 3 weeks prior to the exam. I studied 9 hours a day everyday for 3 weeks prior to the exam. In my eyes I think it is def possible to get mid to high 20s in the chemistry, I used Kaplan and destroyer and think it was a great combo. As I said Biology was random so start reading daily. Overall the exam was not that difficult, and was around what I expected. If you have any questions let me know and ill reply as soon as possible.
I hope I get in I have a 3.4 Gpa as a biochemistry major, but freshman year was a 2.78 since I had to fly home every other week for family health issues. Since then I have had a 3.7+ every semester I hope they take that into account. We will see what my chances are soon.
Just study and practice and you will get a 20+ score
