Talk about pissed, PAT is usually my strongest area, but I lost my composure during the PAT... cost me some time to regain it...

PAT: Crack comperable, kaplans way to easy imo
QR: Just hard, i didnt think I did this bad, but I felt it was harder than any ptest... but maybe its just this version
GC: Pretty straightforward, but there were a few that I just didnt get...kaplan is good imo
OC: Not bad at all, I made Bs in ochem and I thought it was fine
Bio:Random as HELL

What do you think guys? Im a Georgia resident, applying everywhere...

Goodluck Everyone!

I studied with my ochem book/ kaplan online/ and a little destroyer

I think all 3 were good, especially kaplan workshops... I dont know about DAT destroyer... its good... but people hype it up big time on here... you know... "Study this and youll get a 27 TS!".. but it was useful

If I could do it again I would have studied less, I was sooooo burned out by the time I took it.... couldnt stop listening to the damn crickets in the background...

Retake?

I am only worried because of that low PAT... i dont know what happened!

should I go ahead and sign up to retake?

Thanks guys,

feel free to ask any more questions

your pat scores are fine. It's not low. You might piss a lot of people on this forum :meanie:

scores looks good!

I was thinking about QR a little more, now that my heads starting to cool...

I think that there were just many more hard questions than on ptest, it wasnt new material, just less super easy questions.. thus less time to really work out the questions and spend time on them?

Does that make sense?

If I could do it again I would focus a ton more on practice test for this session, and getting the timing up, and learning how to translate word problems into equations

-P

congrats!

for the pat, what happened to make you lose your composure? did you spend too much time on certain sections or was it something else?

just freaked out man, you know, stopped thinking ab out the problems and started thinking about other crap

anyone else, do i need to retake!?!?

If you just want to get in somewhere, don't retake!
If you want to make sure you get into Harvard or UCLA, retake it. 🙂

Your scores are competitive! Do you have dental background or are you straight out of undergrad?

My scores were just below yours but I have 16 years in the profession. Also a GA resident.... Good Luck

Thanks, I really think I am going to retake and try to raise my scores

I am post grad, finance major - corporate world - dentistry

I work at a Dermatologist office for financial reasons, but I am not a dual applicant whatsoever.

Goodluck in your apps!

Have you researched the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools? It will tell you what each school is looking for and their stats. You are well within the comfort zone of applications. Unless you really want to torture yourself with another exam. I guess I am just tainted by having 16 years in the field. I just feel there is more to this than picking apart a few points on the DAT. Awesome that you have a business background. I also have a business degree.

Thanks, I really think I am going to retake and try to raise my scores

Well, the dilemma is this...

MY AA is game, its fine for any normal (non ivy) school

but that PAT is low

and if it turns out I do need to increase my score, if I wait until a year from now to retake it, I have to restudy all this material again!

hence, im thinking I should retake...

yea, I looked at the stats, most schools PAT is averaging 19 now, and I have a 18..

MCG is averaging 19/19 now, so I am below for them too...

When you say you have been in the profession, do you mean you are a dentist or you have been working for a dentist?

Thanks for the post and GL!

I have been in dentistry since 1992, I am a licensed RDA since 1995 and have been a corporate practice managment consultant for a very well known dental continuing education company for the past 8 years. I have traveled all over the country helping dentists with the business part of their practice. In 16 years I have yet to run into one that remembers their score. After reading these posts, it really puts things into perspective. I got a 16 on the DAT, which is not great. However, I have been traveling and working. I think it is a travesty that the schools put so much weight on this exam. I am just going along with this whole thing. I am more than prepared to handle the profession and treating patients. I can only sit and wait and see what happens. In the end we are all DDS/DMD. I personally do not care what school I get into. I just laugh that I have to study plants, SN1 rxns, count blocks, etc... to be a dentist. Anyway, I wish you all the best🙂

you guys really think my score is competitive, even with an 18 pat?

I thought that was a deal breaker

Quit obsessing, your score is just fine. Every one of those scores are ok and you will have no problem getting into school. If it bothers you that much retake. I felt the same way as you do after my DAT, i got a 18 RC. I was really considering retaking, but over time i realized that I was being immature and silly and thought better of it. Your marks are fine and you will be ok. GL on Interviews.

really i thought crack the pat is a little easier than the actual DAT at least in terms of Top, Front, End view and maybe even keyholes. Topscore seems more comparable to the actual DAT

dude you need to stop obsessing, I agree with Klutzy, actually I received both of my current interviews before my retake. If you think your one 18 on the PAT is a deal breaker my entire DAT was a deal breaker.

DAT plays a major role in admissions, but it's not everything.

Besides, if you check out the deadlines for the latest DAT date for schools, most of them are in Dec. So you might not even get a chance to retake for this cycle.

You are fine.

thanks guys, thats very encouraging...

I just like input from people about this stuff. I dont want to be here next year as a reapplicant trying to up my score. The average DAT is rising everywhere, so I really dont think my score is uber great like it would have been a few years ago.

Thanks so much for the input.

Very nice work and congratulations. Also, while opinions are great, it's ultimately going to be up to you. If you feel your QR is holding you back, then by all means, retake. Some people are gonna think your nuts retaking with a 20 AA but they're not in your position, only you are. I have seen people with 21 AA retake because they have a low section that might be below certain cutoffs. Just a warning though, raising your QR but having other sections come down is the worst case scenario. That would be on par with telling the dean of admissions to go F himself in my opinion. After all, QR is thought to be weighted the least. Only retake if your 110% confident you can at least match your other scores. Well that's my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
