I just took my DAT yesterday for the first time...late I know I know

This is what I got:

PAT:15 (no idea what happend I was getting 20s during practice tests)
QR:15 (could not finish..really different then all prac tests)
RC:21
Bio:20
GChem: 20
OChem21

AA: 19
TS:20

My GPA is a 3.7 and science gpa is also about a 3.7

I am a Conn resident and UConn is my top choice school. Do you think I have a chance? The earliest I would be able to retake would be nov. What should I do??

No offense... sorry to say this, but I think you need to retake it... practice more on PAT 🙂

Yeah thats what I thought. 🙁
Thanks for your advice. I was just hoping that with a GPA of 3.7 which is above Uconn's average (3.5), decent scores in all other sections, tons of shadowing and research - I would have a shot. On their website they only give an avergae GPA and averge total science score - no mention of PAT/QR and what is their cutoff number is.

Is it worth taking the test in Nov? Would it even count to much - as admissions are rolling ? Would it be better to just apply next year with much better PAT score (hopefully) ?

in what way was the QR section of the real DAT different from the practice exams? did you only do kaplan practice exams?

I think you should still apply this year and retake the DAT in November. I know retaking in November is late, but your GPA is really good and I still think you'd have a shot at getting an acceptance somewhere, even if you retake the DAT.

um as for QR- lots of word problems. So I think you need to be quicker in general when going through QR.🙁

PAT - I dont think it was any harder than crack dat pat...I just messed up- once again no idea why...😡

Is PAT more important or RC? What do you guys think?

no, RC is quickly becoming more important than PAT.

I do research with a Biomed professor at the UNLV SDM, and he happened to write the new admissions formula that dental schools are starting to use. According to statistics that he compiled, an accepted student's RC score is the best indicator as to how the student will perform in dental school (performance as measured by Class Rank, Board Scores, and GPA). As such, more weight is being applied to the RC score than the PAT.

this likely varies from school to school, but the data is interesting.

Thanks for all the input - I spoke to the admissions department at Uconn and they said they don't care about QR that much because everyone has been doing badly as of late. And luckily the PAT is not as important either. Its all about the sciences and RC and GPA!

All schools are different though- so I am not really sure how it works.
