I would like to thank everyone for their advice on how to properly prepare for the DAT. My scores are below:

I just got done with the test and it seem to be alot more general than I thought. For my study material the only sources that I used was DAT destroyer 2011, math destroyer and Crack the PAT 5 test version. I was a little short on money and these are the only things that I could afford😡. I ended studying for 2 months, 5-6 days a week for 5 to 6 hours. I made flashcards by hand for every question in the dat destoryer and made sure to know the questions and the everything about the solutions. I didnt take any practice test before going in there and i really wish I would have. The math destroyer compared to the real DAT was harder and the math seemed alot easier on the real DAT. Im not sure why I didnt do better in the sciences because the DAT destroyer over prepared me. I may have over looked general concepts. I didnt do anything for reading comp. because I feel like its hard to study for that subject. And crack the PAT was a very good study source for the PAT, it felt like I was just doing a regular test off the crack the PAT program. Overall I feel like I could have done better if I would have taken some practice test to get the timing down. I have a 3.2 overall gpa and a 3.0 science gpa with a 4 year biology pre-med degree. Im looking at masters programs because I feel like my gpa is too low. Do yall think I should retake my DAT? Should I do a masters?

Once again thank you to everyone, hopefully this information will help others. MAKE SURE NOT TO STRESS OUT TO MUCH BECAUSE IT WILL AFFECT THE WAY YOU STUDY AND SCORE ON THE DAT.😱

Im scared to think about how well you'd do if you had used chad's vids along with cliffs AP.

IMO, you should retake, not because your scores suck, but because you can do better. You just need the 2 resources I mentioned.

I normally recommend post-bacc over masters especially when the student has sub 3.0 GPA... but you said you are a biology major... is there any upper level biology courses left to take in post-bacc? if not.... masters is your only option (assuming you want to go back to school)

Ive taken all the upper biology and chemistry classes, so thats why im leaning towards a 1 year online masters program. Are my DAT scores competitive?

Thanks

I would definitely retake the DAT and do a post-bac/master's. The combination of your less than average GPA and so-so DAT scores make your application less than competitive for this upcoming cycle.

The DAT Destroyer is good if you have a strong foundation in the sciences already. It's a good way to gauge where your weaknesses are, but I would not use it as my primary source for studying for the DAT. Many of the questions on the DAT are more general/broad as you've mentioned and I feel like the DAT Destroyer "trains" you differently than what is really necessary. I would throw in Kaplan or Princeton Review study guides for the sciences. They are good in that they have a good idea of what might be on the DAT and focus more on those concepts and not bog you down with frivolous details that the DAT Destroyer tends to do. The DAT Destroyer is still good, but use it towards the end when you have a strong grasp on the concepts first.

Give it one more good push, use better resources, and I think you'll do much better on the DAT the second time around.

If you don't mind me asking. I would like to know how you studied on a daily basis? Different subjects at a time and for how long or same subject per day? Can you be specific on how your schedule was on a daily and weekly basis? I have 2 months also.😱

hey what was your average crackdat pay score when you practicied?
and def consider retaking. i think you can do so much better.

I would study bio for 2 hours, the math for 2hrs and then do a crack the pat test for 1 hr on a single day. The next day i would do orgo for 2 hrs and gen chem for 2 hrs. It really helped studying this way and I did this for a whole month before that I was just reading the dat destroyer and broke it up to where i could finish the whole book in 10 days.

On the crack the pat I scored a 19, 19, 20, 19, 20 on the 5 test.

i would recommend retake but the decision is all yours...i mean u could always apply with these scores and study for the dat again and reapply and once u do better (believe that you will and you can make it happen) u can resend the scores to your school choices and go from there...

edit i just saw ur gpa...do a masters...raise that gpa...retake dats and apply =)
