Hello SDN.

First of all, I would like to thank Sfokn for all the tips...they were really helpful. Secondly, thank you SDN. This website is really greayt and has everything you need to know for this exam.

ALright. On the testday, I arrived at Prometric centere about 2 hours early. The lady at the front desk was really nice, and I asked her if I could start my exam early. She said I could if I really want to. My appointment time was 1:30 pm but I began my exam around 12:00.

This was my 2nd time taking DAT. I took my first DAT in June/09. At the time, I really didn't care that much about this exam and scored the followings.

Bio:19
GC:17
OC:22
QR:18
RC:19
PA:20
TS:19
AA:19

I'm a korean canadian. I came to canada around 9 years ago but still not that good at English.😀 I just finished my undergrad at UWO, majored in Microbiology & Immunology. My oGPA and sGPA were around 3.7~ so I thought I could get into dental school no problem with these scores and GPA. I got two interviews and got waitlisted at both institutions(Currently still waitlisted).

So I decided to retake this standardized test and I was really hoping to get 20+

I took the exam and got

PA:22(93.8)
Bio:30(100)😍
GC:23(97.3)
OC:25(98.4)
QR:19(92.9)
RC:20(78.5)
TS:26(99.9)😍
AA:23(99.7)

PAT: I had 10 versions of CDP. I averaged around 23~22. Get CDP if you really want to do well on PAT. Just Practice, Practice and Practice. I found TFE a lot harder than CDP. The angles weren't that bad (easier than CDP). Counting Cubes are 100 times easier than CDP. The folding was really tricky but it was not that bad. Only used CDP for PAT section

Bio: Wow.. I got 30 on this section. First of all, out of 40 I had like 25 questions about genes, genetics, genetic engineering and the other 15 questions consist of one question from each topic. I didn't get Cliff's AP bio. One of my friends used Barron's AP for PCAT and she recommended me Barron's (She got 99% percentile after using this book). There is a major difference between Barrons' AP bio and Barrons' DAT. Get this book!!! I only used this book to prepare. Know everything in this book. Don't miss anything and I'm 100% positive that you will end up 20+ in bio. I was going to read campbell's like Spoksn did. But then I had to study for Chem and Orgo. So I just prayed to God that I don't get any stupid random questions. I didn't guess any question. I knew all the answers and when I moved onto Chem section, I was 99.9% sure that I got everything right.

Chem: Not many calculation questions. Only used Kaplan's. No chad's video. I already spent 400$ on crack DAT royal flush version (wasted money).. So I couldn't afford to spend extra 20 bucks (I know it's not that much but after spending 400$, 20 bucks seemed a lot to me). Anyways, Know Kaplan really well. It has everything you need to know.

OC: Again, I only used Kaplan's. Kaplan has everything you need to know. No chad's no MCAT osmosis or other materials. When you study Kaplan's. Make sure you know which catalyst or reagents are used in each reaction. Don't just assume that you will know when you see the reaction. Make sure that you memorize all reactions in this book. Definitely, don't be lazy. You should Know SN1/2, E1/2. I saw them again just like on my first DAT.

QR: I only used CDM. Omg..... It was dreadful.... I had like 15 word questions. I mean I skipped all of em but I didn't have much time to go back and finish them. I'm not good at math. Oh well, I got 18 on my first one and got 19 this time. I guess this shows somewhat improvement.

RC: Didn't get pianoed. However, the questions were very similar to CDR. I think for this section, CDR and Topscore are all you need. Use both, and you will end up 20+ on this section.

I only had Topscores and I only took Science and RC sections seriously. I didn't even do PAT sections because I got sick of it after doing 2500 angle, 4500 cube counting, and 2500 hole punching...

Bio/GC/OC/RC/TS
1: 21/25/30/21/25
2: 19/20/21/21/20
3: 19/25/28/19/22

I didn't apply to any schools yest. But I do really want to get into dental schools. Especially Harvard. Do you think I stand a chance? I have GPAs around 3.70~3.80... But first thing first, I need to scan my results and send it to the schools I'm waitlisted at, and see what they say...

Thank you again SDN and those who answered my stupid questions
Now I can sit back and enjoy my summer time!~~~

YES I'm done!!!

Are you sure about your bio score? I dont think its possible to score 30 on the bio section, but I could be wrong

congrats, you are probably have the highest bio score in the country. dent schools will like that

Hi KKim85,
Congratulation to your amazing scores. Could you tell me which method you use for RC? I will take DAT next Monday. 4 days to go!
Thanks!

Use Search and destroy method. Worked really well for me...

Just time yourself and don't freak out! Stay focused! then you will do fine 🙂

Congrats! Did you have prior knowledge of the genetic subjects or were they all in Barron's AP Bio?

heyy! congrats on the awesome scores!!! i was wondering for hte reading section if the real dats had a "exhibit" section u can click to get the passage condensed instead of having to read it in long horizontal lines-like they on kaplan?

People tend to think that KBB is not sufficient. However, I think it is good enough for both GC and OC. You need to understand every little thing in each chapter. Don't assume that you know everything. Just take your time and stay focused.

Barron's AP book is really good. it's only 15 bucks and it will get tou 20+ on DAT. Get it now. I dunno how good Cliff's is but I know Barron's is really good. Well as you can see, I have a science background but that's all.

Thanks Kkim! I have Barron's and Cliff's and have been using Cliffs mainly but I think I'm going to switch to Barron's as my main book now!

I studied 8 hours per day for 2 months. Then studied 12 hours per day 5 days before my exam. Thx to redbull.

wowww congratulations!! 🙂
you seriously just killed bio. haha i'm happy for you.
haha hmm.. my little brother just bought the barrons ap bio book cuz he's taking ap bio this year so i think i'm gonna check that out..
ahh i hope i can do near as well as you did. i'm taking it next week!

Really awesome scores!

I have a question, did you have any carbohydrate/protein questions on your organic chem section? I don't think it's listed under the ADA DAT topics but I've seen quite a few in my practice tests.

Thanks!

all i can say is this: hope you're not applying to the same schools as me 😛

congrats dude!!

Btw, yea maybe I will just attend NYU, but I want some scholarship
I really wanna see what they say with my improved DAT scores.

You had a GPA of 3.7 and Average DAT of 20 and you did not get in ??
Where did you apply if you don't mind me asking ?
Is this Normal ?

I know NYU has a high DAT average , 21 but other schools that I have been checking, have average of 19 or 20 and consider that competitive .

Congrats on the new scores.

One word: International.
It's alot tougher.

One word: International.
It's alot tougher.

I am international student as well ( Canadian) but that is not true for all the schools. It is much tougher for International students to get into state sponsored schools but some of the private ones do not make any difference between international and US students.

hey kkim, when you said you used kaplan for the chems, you're talking about the blue book right? u used only the blue book?

Congratulations!

You should send in your application as soon as possible and you will have no problem getting in everywhere 🙂

Good luck.

이거 보시는지 몰라서 여러군데로 보낼게요ㅠ죄송해요
Hi! I saw your post on the DAT forum and really wanted to talk to you. I'm from Korea and am studying for the DAT that I will be taking 9/13. It's really close now, and I feel so unprepared!!!!!
(is this KBB or is that something else?)

Thanks a lot Kim! It works!! I got a 21 for my RCT! But I did scan the passage for about 2-3 minutes to get the main ideas. Then I used S & D.

I just wanted to say, thanks for recommending the barrons book! It's been really helpful!
I only read thru Cliff's to prep for bio, but there were somethings i was unclear on that barrons cleared up for me. I really like how it has more pictures and diagrams. I guess I'm more of a visual learner haha.

Once again, congratulations!

와아아아아아.....
I'm taking the exam tomorrow. I'm so scared. I'm pretty sure that I'm under-prepared.. oh well... 짜증나! ㅋㅋㅋ

Congratulations on your scores!! ^_^
