advice needed about math..anyone get in with low math scores?

BIO: 17/22
GC: 19/19
OC: 21/23 (+2)
PAT: 21/20 (-1)
QR: 16/14 (-2)
RC: 18/23 (+5)
TS: 19/22 (+3)
AA: 18/20 (+2)

2nd time applicant, dental assistant, 3.47 gpa..volunteer. applying to 14 schools, from cali.

will they look down at my math? advice greatly appreciated..

There used to be a lot of people with low QRs on SDN...no there are more. Don't hassle over it.

Congratulation good scores. About QR just call the schools some have cut off scores but most of them don't. GL

UOP's cutoff score is 17. You can't get below a 17 on any categories, other wies they wont even consider you. University of Florida's cutoff point is a 15.

solid scores except for tat math. I dont think it will be such a major problem though. You should get a handful of interviews ad several acceptances. Good Luck on interviews.

i woudlnt' belive u 100%... cuz on predents.com, there are some applicants for UOP with interview dates with high everything else and a low QR (like 15)..i don't remember who but it's on there now.

And that's also what one of the admission staff said when my school's pre-dent club visited UOP during March. They said they want to look at WELL ROUNDED individuals. That's why they dont look at applicants who scored below their cutoff points on the DAT sections. Someone said it's 18 for UOP now? I think I saw that post couple days ago

Oh forgot to mention one more fact. When I was at UNLV for it's simulation course, their admission staff told us how they think the QR section is ridiculus and pretty much "******ed" They dont look at QR, they look mainly at PAT, gen chem, and reading comp.

well..maybe that special person on predents with the low QR is a relative..

i don't have one.. i only used Top score to practice. but on the real thing, i read thru the first 2 passages, freaked out cuz i didn't remember what i read,..

then did what everyone would do in panic mode :search and destroy..

i guess skimming thru it quickly helped with the "tone questions" and to locate key words (i did a road map- but never really refered to it)..

sorry..i don't really have a clear answer for this one..i got REALLY REALLY LUCKY..hopefully u do too.

I believe the search and destroy method is my last resort, I skim and write notes about each paragraph just for main points. Anyway to answer your main question, one of my good friends got into 3 schools with similar GPA as you and 14 QR, and much lower on other sections! What happened with the QR, you run out of time?

on the first DAT, i studied for math and ran out of time ..didn't even TRY the easy probs..

2nd dat, didn't run out of time, but didn't practice enough or bother to memorize math formlas (volume for cylinder, square etc) ..which u should do!!! ..as a 2nd time applicant, i only focused to improve on the sciences..but i am bummed about getting a 14..i expected 16 but not any lower.. my fault..

oh let me add, if u have destroyer, defnitely go thru the math section a couple of times and understand it! or try many math books cuz dat math section i think is very similar to the practice problems in destroyer.. u can only be a presented a math problem in a limited amt of ways

Thanks for the advice, but believe it or not, I won't study anything for QR except for the formulas and the cos/sin crap, its actually my highest scoring subject right now! 😕

lol, well u knowing the cos/sin crap + formulas will definitely get u higher than a 14! lol. cuz i didn't know any of it! and that's great that ur scoring high on it! most people are exhausted by the QR section, but u will breeze right thru it. good luck

Those are students with 14s on the QR or LOWER! and look under the acceptance column (Acpt) to see where the went. You can of course check all the other DAT scores. That is as far as 4 or 5 cycles. Hey man best of luck to you and all of us!

i got mine postmarked today (exactly 21 days)..they don't mean that they want it received by then right?
