Hey guys,

First off, SDN was an entertaining resource that always kept me thinking about the DAT. It was also a big distraction! I was always so keen on answering toughh questions for chem/genetics, none of which really proved useful on the DAT. It was a straight forward exam.

About a month ago I started studying pretty intensely, then school started on Sept 9th, taking some tough 4th year sciences. I told myself that I'd skip class a week before the exam and finish destroyer and start topscore, as well as review bio topics which I'm not comfortable with. All was going as planned until... BAM H1N1 somehow found me... those fukrs, I now support the hypothesis that virus's are ALIVE dammit!! Anyway that cut my 'week' into 4 days.. I wrote a practice test fri sat and mon.. (DAT on tues@830am), barely got through destroyer Gchem and Ochem and didn't review ANY biology(cept the night b4, looked over those notes floating around SDN, great resource for last minute studying)!! I relied on my major, a terrible idea. So many things I could have easily studied if I hadn't been sick, I really could have done better. I regret not going over bio in the summer.. But all said and done considering the condition I was in I think it went pretty well. Here are the scores..

Perceptual Ability: 20
Quantitative Reasoning: 16 😱
Reading Comprehension: 19 🙄
Biology: 17😴
GenChem: 24
OChem: 22
TS: 20 🙂🙂
AA: 20 🙂🙂

My studying consisted of wasting immense amounts of time on SDN reading breakdowns, casually watching chad's video's (and really enjoying them), then slowly chopping down at destroyer. The few days of topscore + destroyer during the last push were pretty intense, managed to do 4 CDP and 4 CDM's in that time aswell. I know I could've done alot better if I hadn't been sick, I had a schedual allowing me to finish all my resources, including destroyer's bio section (which I didn't even touch).

For RC I had piano, aspirin, and cell communication. If I hadn't heard so many horror stories about piano, I wouldn't have paniced so much! Turned out to be a really easy passage... I think its changed since being the really tough one. Found the other passages more dense and slower to read through.

For QR, I didn't memorize some formula's and it really killed me, mainly random conversions and such. (was getting 20-22 on CDM AND Topscore) I think my main downfall here was not taking those topscores like a real DAT. I was taking breaks between RC and QR, TS and PAT. If you haven't taken them all at the same time then you don't realize how tired your brain is at that point. Practice your endurance!

K well now I need to play catch up with 5 courses! My application is in and hopefully everything works out! Thanks to all those who have helped me, I'll be coming back to help with random genetics/chem questions I see. Post below if you have questions.

PEACE

congrats, very surprised to see a 22CDM going to 16... what formula didn't you memorize?
can you share the breakdowns on your scores in practice tests?
also, did you find chads vid that useful? could memorizing destroyer alone do the trick?

QR was really about endurance, I suggest being more well rested then myself. I crammed the **** outa that exam.. studying for 100hours in the last 5days.

As for the chemistry's, my only resources were destroyer and chad. I think Chad is great, I really enjoyed watching those vids and I think they helped.

More or topscore later, just finishing class

Nice job dentrilla!👍👍
I feel your pain of being sick while taking the DAT. Did you take any medicine?

Yah, just ibuprofen to settle the headaches.. as well as lots of fluids n such, the regular flu treatment.

Definitely happy with my scores considering the conditions, I'm just scared my bio/QR will hold me back. Hopefully they'll just look at 20/20/20 hah

PS. Starting the semester a MONTH behind everyone else is ridiculous.. I'll never get outa this cramming lifestyle..

No wonder you got sick: you only had 20 hours of sleep over 5 days, lol.

hah, I was sick before that. But yah those 5 days were really intense, luckily I'm used to cramming. I'm just so pumped its over.. now for a medgen assignment...... :lame: :lame:

(no PAT scores, i was using CDP for that)

Topscore 1:
Bio:17
Gchem:19
Ochem: 19
Reading: 18
QR: 22

Topscore 2:
Bio:17
Gchem:19
Ochem:20
Reading:18
QR:20

Topscore 3:
Bio: 18
Gchem:20
Ochem: 20
Reading: n/a
QR: n/a

I did 3-4 CDM's which ranged from 19-22
I did 3-4 CDP's which ranged from 20-23

Take home message: DON'T get freaked out by practice scores, you NEVER know what will happen on test day. (Don't get too confident either!!

just wondering,
do you think topscore was good for practice exams? easier or harder than the DAT you took?

Topscore was a good representation of the exam. My SPECIFIC DAT was honestly fairly similar to topscore in regards to difficulty. I'd say that Bio on the DAT was a bit broader than topscore and Ochem on the DAT was a bit more specific than topscore. I thought reading was easier on the real exam because the passages were so much easier to read! The questions might have been a different style (more inference/tone), but since I was actually able to digest the passages I personally felt it was easier. But like I said, thats just my DAT...

You guys think my 16 QR and 17 Bio are gonna hurt my app??

*My GPA is ~3.5 and my extra's are great*

Oh yah, and I'm applying to a lot of schools
