Hello my SDN friends -- i gotta say thanks for all the support on this exam -- advice, tips, your experiences have all really helped.

Now, my scores:

PAT 20 😛
MATH 18 😎
BIO 22 🙄
CHEM 22 😀
ORGO 23 :hardy:
READING 22 :luck:

i'm suuuuuuper happy -- i was FREAKED before, I studied my butt of but my nerves really almost got the best of me.

I studied the DAT DESTROYER LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND -- for real, i mean it was my main study tool. If i HADN'T used the book (and had Dr. Romano's guidance) I would NOT have done as well as I did. In fact if I went over that book one more time I am sure I could've done better, way better.

Now, I also used Achiever and Top Score for help with the TIME and that was CRUCIAL!!! I mean, for all the studying I did when I took the first practice test i really did poorly, i hardly finished a section -- it was also really crucial for timing on the PAT...

IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ASK ME!!! I'm here for you!!!

THANKS!
pudzi

Good job. Solid scores. How did you practic for your RC? What did you get in Achiever and Topscore? (If you don't mind)

omg...padma im so happy 4 u!!!!!!!!! i knew u would rock it.....throw me a message or text me i wanna see how u r!

Been waiting for you to post...Nice Job!!! Congratulations and enjoy the rest of th journey!

Did you use anything besides Destroyer/TopScore/Achiever?

nope nothing else. I take really detailed textbook notes when i study for class. i never look at the book again except for reference and pics. i read all those biology notes and used destroyer for that and everything else. achiver and top score math are ok except don't waste time trying to remember lbs to tons of crap conversions. Destroyer and the other are all you really need. i did all the achiever and top score questions, but they were more scary than useful and somewhat off the mark with bio, but it's hard to really tell. Destroyer is a more expansive review, obviously.
does that help?

i didn't practice RC - it's good to do a few to get a sense of time, length, word difficulty and language. but otherwise don't waste your time. this is how i apporached RC.

read the title and the first few sentences scan the rest of the first paragraph and go right to the questions. look for the key words in each (the screen is split like on the practice) scan for those words, once to find them read it up and answer the question, move on. by the 5th question you will have scanned the article 5 times and will know the general lay of the land. the questions repeat stuff. like they ask you abt one thing, you look it up read abt it, then in another question that might be the wrong answer and you already know bc you read about it! there isn't enough time to read the entire thing. or try to understand them they're boring on purpose, but i did have one which was cool and had the answer to a ? i guessed on in the bio section! you should try one test this way, if you do well don't waste time on RC go over the other sections esp the bio -- that was the scariest 4 me bc it's hard and mad important, if you know destroyer chem you're golden. know those roadmaps in destroyer. i didn't waste time on topscore chems... but i would do them when my brain was tired.

my scores on my practice achiever topscore were not great. i mean 16 17 18. it gave me stress hives. the real test was much easier. think if half it's chromosome came from TopScore and the other half from Destroyer. 😛

good luck.

great scores. one can feel ur happiness in ur writing.
i m taking my exam in month...u said don't waste time on conversions? i was acually memorizing those. should i really quit doing that? what about formulas, for math and chem? r any provided at all?

Hi, congrats!
This would be my first post and your great scores are the inspiration for the post.
Q1: How did you prep for math? I noticed it's the low for everyone and even lower for me during my pactice tests.
Q2: How were your study habbits? Times investmest through the duration and hrs per day?

Those are some awesome scores. I'm looking forward to your advice.

they are not worth memorizing -- i think they're testing that you can do that sort of mathematical reasoning -- not the actual figures -- besides you can always look up that crap in life and the DAT was a fair test overall.

now formulas you should definitely definitely know: probability and trig stuff sin cos etc...

and chem KNOW the formulas. and molecules -- know it all!

Hi thank you. The math is not hard as much as it's a timing thing. I knew all the math from destroyer, achiever and top score over and over. I tried to study the things i had trouble with the most -- but some things are lost on me (ie probability). So you have to choose your battles. kNow your strengths in math and focus on those -- but make sure you get them right since you're giving them your attention. I find in the math section your exhausted, it's the end of the test - the only section i didn't get to finish. make sure you have a snack. and be careful with your math skills. there isn't much time to do a problem twice -- so build up your speed by doing problems over and over and over -- time yourself. I did terribly on all the practice tests bc they can be hard, but don't get down on yourself keep plugging!!!

Now... i'm embarrassed to say my study habits are less than superb. The thing that really help, esp in bio was that i had a very solid foundation to start with. when i study for class i take intense textbook notes. i relied on those, my text and destroyer for all that and was ok. i took a dat class with Dr. Romano throughout the semester, so i spent time every weekend studying for the DAT. then this summer i took it real easy and studied. it wasn't till the end that i really pushed hard -- and by that i mean i ate, studied, slept, and went on long walks for exercise and to get out of the house. i watched movies. i stayed in and studied like it was full time job. that's it really. i have procrastination issues but knew the fear would kick in and it did -- i was drowning in a sea of polar protic molecules, choking on yellow red and green marbles... but in the end it's ok -- the most important thing was trying to keep my cool -- yoga helps. shoulder pose makes the blood rush to your brain. :luck:

i just kept telling myself that if i killed myself now it would be worth it -- and it was -- you'll be over and sitting pretty, just keep your head dowm and in the books!

Nice work on the DAT Pudz. I like the name by the way. My sis used to call me Pudhead when we were little. Actually she still does.🙁

thanks dude, it's the only nickname i like... 😎

When did you start studying for the DAT and what strategy did you use to study?

Thanks!

Sorry but my sister plans on using the book for the MCAT -- i strongly urge you to buy the book -- it's worth it and Dr. Romano and Nancy are an invaluable resource throughout the process. (www.orgoman.com)

good job and i am happy for you~
by the way, can you sell your dat destroyer for me if you still have.
please send e-mail this address [email protected]

thank you

I started taking class in late january, every weekend I went -- I might've missed one class. But I didn't kill myself bc i was in school. Once summer hit I still took PAT tutoring and then I studied on my own, for maye 4 - 6 hours a day for about a month. I would still try to chill at night and workout to relieve stress -- the closer it got the more i studied till i thought i would go mad. you can read my other responses to see what i thought of each section. I used the DAT Destroyer the most and used Achiever and Top Score for PAT, Reading comp and timing. I used my bio class notes and text book as an additional resource. I also prayed to God and made vows which now I have to fulfill... 🙄

When did you start studying for the DAT and what strategy did you use to study?

Thanks!

hey, you came into our class on tuesday (dr. romano's). i just wanted to congradulate you, u did awesome! i have a question.... what did you use for math and pat? kerry will be helping us soon, but i just wanted to get a head start on the pat since that's my weakest section. thanx

thanks! hey for math i use Destroyer, TS and Achvr. I used TS and Achvr for PAT. i think it's a good move to try a PAT here and there all the while the more you do the better you'll do -- just don't get freaked out!!! 😉
