Alright guys, I'll make this short and sweet. All in all, Im DEF retaking this beast, and I thought I was going to do A LOT better. The test is not hard at all, but while studying, I took practice tests in sections, so this was the first time I actually took the test the whole time through.
PAT 17: I am VERY disappointed with this score. I scored a 22 on CDP test 9 two days before, and worked through Achiever. I scored a 16 on Achiever test 3. I obviously need to work on this.
QR 14: I knew this would be my weakest section, and to tell you the truth Im not surprised this score. Another thing to work on.
RC 17: This was not too bad, but I am disappointed with this score.
BIO 18: This was my strongest section by far while studying, so I am super surprised at this. I took datqvault test 8 two days before and scored a 23. I also was getting around 85% correct in Destroyer. I had MANY conceptual questions.
GC 19: There were a few random questions which I have never seen, but I know I can do a lot better.
OC 21: This was the easiest section for me. By the time I arrived to this section I had about 22 minutes left (spent most of my time on GC), so it was a breeze. I was expecting AT LEAST a 22, but a 21 is alright with me.

I graduated my undergrad last May and graduated with a 3.33 cGPA. I am starting a post-bacc tomorrow, but for now I am only taking two courses (advanced physiology and virology). I plan to DAT for an hour or two on the weekends, paying particular attention to QR, PAT, and RC. I want to retake before the next cycle opens so I can apply early. I learned a lot and plan to Bit*h slap this test next time around, because I def. know I can. Thanks all!

And congrats on those others who took it today! Great job!

It works in your favor that you wrote the DAT in January. Now you can buckle up for the next few months and work on your weak areas.

Trust me I went from similar scores as yours the 1st time to 21/23/20 with a 14 in QR. I know how bummish it can feel... but trust me you can drastically improve your scores.

I never focused on the QR the first two times, so I'm preparing for it this time and I know I will bit*h slap it this time around 😉

Keep on pushin' bud!

Don't worry too much you've got plenty of time to study for the next one. You use chad's videos? they're really helpful for gc imo. I hear there is one for math too but, I never used it maybe that will help.

You will kill it next time. I second chads video's if you didn't use them this time they are the single most helpful thing I purchased for the DAT. He even has some math ones. His videos are geared for standardized test like the DAT and MCAT and he shows you some tricks in Gchem and math. Good luck

I used Chad's, but I actually think I may have overstudied, if thats possible. Im going to take it easy and focus on my courses now/PAT/RC. I also plan to periodically do Destroyer GC and the roadmaps on the weekends. I KNOW I will own that retake.

Sorry it didn't go your way this time. I think a big part of the test is luck of the draw on questions asked.

You will do great next time, you will know what to expect and how to study appropriately.

Good luck!

One thing I would make sure you do is take several full length practice tests before you take the DAT again. It'll help with you stamina for the real test, and timing.

Second this and I'd suggest you do this with Achiever more than others. It really puts you in the mindset of "Oh **** I am going to fail this test" and still forces you to keep going on and on. The second most important thing I feel is reviewing your mistakes be it in a practice test or just practice questions or whatever. It makes you remember your mistakes a lot better...hopefully avoiding making them twice.

It is certainly good to see that you have such an encouraging attitude and know you want to retake it. It sets an example for everyone who didn't quite get the score they wanted the first time.

Do you guys know when is the deadline to take the DAT for cycle 2012?

I don't know the exact deadline, but considering people have already started to get acceptance letters, applying now would almost certainly not be worth it. You might get in, but you might not get in with the financial package you deserve or into the school of your choice.

Alternatively, if you already applied, call the schools you applied to.

Thanks guys. I actually have Achiever, but like I said, I only used it in sections. I purchased the 5 test version, but only got to do the first two. I took the damn test yesterday, and I am already starting to study this weekend for my retake, whenever it is I plan to rewrite it ha.

What will you take in post back? Will you do Master's? Some schools like students with master's degrees. NYU is one of those schools, so I have heard.

Right now I am only taking two courses, virology and an advanced physiology II course. I am planning to study for my rewrite throughout the semester and retake before the cycle opens so I can apply early. I plan to take a few extra courses in the summer, and fall if necessary, then academic update. Scratch the Master's, I think thats the biggest waste of time.

Why do you think it's a waste of time? If you are taking classes, why not get a degree while doing it? You are taking some useful classes, make the most of it.
