Soooooo... took my DAT today. I'll cut to the chase:
PA: 19
QR: 18
RC: 19
BIO: 20
GC: 23
OC: 20
TS: 21
AA: 20
I'm more or less happy with what I got. But my GPA/sGPA is only about 3.4/3.3 from a lower tier school. Do I still have a chance for this cycle? I still need to get ALL of my letters of recommendation... I think it may be September by the time I get everything submitted.
I'm too tired to do an extensive breakdown, but here's what I gleaned:
QR: I *suck* at math. So I'm REALLY happy with an 18. Basically, I skimmed a problem, figured out if I could solve it or not. If I couldn't I just moved on to the next. By the time I went through all the problems I had about 10 iffy ones and only 3 minutes left. I guessed and hit submit because I was tired as hell of the test by that point.
RC: I don't understand how I only got a 19. On my practice tests I got 22, 23, 26... The passages I got were piano, aspirin and cell signaling. The piano one wasnt hard to read but the questions were just... out there. I figured I did well enough on the other two sections to offest the piano passage but I guess not. I was really hoping for 21+ on this one.
PAT: About the same difficulty as topscore. I'm pretty good at cubes, holes, and TFE but I really suck at angles and folding. I used the grid method for holes and the tally method for cubes. I did better on this than my practice tests (16, 17 on achiever, 18 on destroyer)
Bio: Not really much I can say about this one. It's really broad... I had genetics, ecology, plants... you name it, it was there.
GC: I was surprised at this score. Highest GC I got on my practice tests was 21. Taking the freshman chem course over the summer (took the final on thursday) helped me a lot here.
OC: Ok, I was stumped when I saw this. I know it's a weird thing to say about a 20 but I was REALLY hoping to get a 24+. I thought I was really prepared for organic, my practice tests were all 25+... I just don't understand how this score was so low (even though it's high) But it's over... nothing more can be done 🙂
So with that being said, is it too late? Or should I risk the money and apply anyways? (I'm non-minority, btw)
