Hey guys I took the DAT saturday. I am very worried about one of the scores but I have talked to a lot of people and they said with my other scores, I shouldn't worry about it. Tell me what you think.

RC=16 (oh snap) (and yes english is my first language)
QR=18 (ok)
BIO=24
Gchem=21
Ochem=23
TS=23
AA=20
PAT=20

Obviously I am worried about RC. But with my other scores, and plus a 3.8 science GPA I should be ok right? Tell me what you think.

BIO- I would get 16-19 on top score and Achiever. But to be honest the real test was even harder. I was just on my game I guess. I am a bio major with A's in all my bio classes. But you absolutely need Destroyer for this
section. Destroyer nails it. Kaplan is fine to use and gives a good base, but you are crazy if you don't get adchiever for this. I realize some people do well without it, but the chances are a lot slimmer.

GChem- 4 or 5 calculations. Not to bad. if you know destroyer your fine.

Ochem- I am happy with a 23 but I am not sure on which ones I missed. I was only confused on 1 question. Destroyer nails this.

PAT- It is very much like kaplan in keyholes, TFE, cubes, and paper folding. It is more like achiever in angles and hole puching. The angles are tough, but not as tough as some people have made them out to be.

QR- about the same as achiever.

RC- Unbelievable. I promise I can read and understand. I just took way too long on my first passage. It was was tougher than any practice test I had taken. I just blew it I guess.

Let me know what you think. Feel free to ask any questions.

I would call the schools you apply to and make sure they don't have a cutoff for RC at 17.

Since your GPA is so high I'd say the cutoff thing should be your only worry and that's something you can find out about before you submit your app (if you haven't yet).

Your scores look great. Good job.

It seems really common for people to be getting rocked on either QR or RC or both.

If you have your heart set on a certain school, it definitely would be wise to call them and ask if they have minimum per section.

If you're just trying to get in somewhere, I wouldn't sweat it too much, seems like you're still competitive with your GPA.

Good luck either way.

I meant to ask what other resources you used for bio, besides Destroyer?

Thanks in advance.

only kaplan and destroyer. I did use topscore and achiever too.
But I didn't use anything else, no schaums, no cliffs AP, nothing. One thing I would do that I didnt do is use a biology textbook. I wish I would have gone over the destroyer stuff with my textbook(campbells).

Congratulations, Good to know that u studied mainly from the destroyer, I do the same thing, I really hope to get the same grades on my sciences. Good luck and congratulations again. 🙂🙂🙂🙂.

Good job....excellent scores...What happened on the reading??? Was it hard or were you exhausted? Any suggestions for us as of how to approach it??? Thanks in advance...

good job mailman. don't worry, i think you will get in to some dental schools, u are in good position with your TS score and your GPA.

do you remember the topics in your RC part of the exam?

Great job with those sciences buddy! The RC is a little troublesome but hopefully your GPA and your other sections of your DAT will cover that up for you. Like some1 else said, def check to make sure that you didnt miss any cutoff with that RC but nonetheless congrats on the great game day performance. Good luck with the application process.

Great Job Mailman!
I would not worry too much about the RC. I overlooked it coz your 24 on Bio was blinding me 😀. I am sure many schools will forgive a 16 on RC. Congrats and enjoy the rest of your summer!

It was way harder than any practice test. If I were you I would skip the first passage if it seems long or confusing. The next two are bound to be easier and then you can come back to the first

Great scores. I'm a devoted destroyer studyer too. So if i know it well i should be fine?

If you know destroyer in and out, your science and QR should be fine. I went over the book twice and memorized it all. But I also memorized all the kaplan tests too and I'm sure it helped some.

I shouldn't retake right? I mean the RC is terrible, but if I retook and did better on the RC, chances are my bio and sciences would go down a tad too.

Nice Job! "The mailman has delivered"! Dude your grades are nice, dont even worry about your RC score... The way I see it, you hit a 20 (not lower) and your TS score is 23!!! believe me there are thousands who would love your scores even with a 16 RC. Once again Congrat's

Congrats on your scores mailman! You destroyed the DAT! 🙂 I would not worry about your RC score. Your other scores more than make up for it (especially that 24 in bio 👍).

Maybe, but don't count on it. I scored 24 on bio last cycle and had 19's and 20s everywhere else except QR where I scored 16. I didn't even get an invitation to interview anywhere. I'd check the specific schools and see if you need to retake to try to up the RC.

Out of curiosity, was this passage the one that was ridiculously long? 27 paragraphs or something silly?

I read about someone mentioning a passage that long, but didn't know if he was exaggerating or serious. Or was the material just difficult to get through?

Thanks.

The RC was definetley a lot harder than any other practice test i took also, i completed the EXAM on the June 29th. I ended up with a 18 on RC. I was getting 20 on topscore and 20 on kaplan. I also took the MCATS and this RC section was like the MCATS the questions were like " What did the author try to say by asking the questions at the end of paragraph 2", "What was the tone of the passage". The practice exams i took were directly in the passage this DAT exam was nothing like it. I took the RC two times and the first time it was very easy i got a 20, this past time it definetley was not easy at all!!!!!

Also not the sound mean but i dont think your 16 is good enough to get into many schools, i got a 16 on QR the first time i took it so i retoke it just because of that score, it worked out good for me because i did better. I would say study real hard for RC and retake it in 3 months as soon as you can. BEST of LUCK

IsRaEl21, i know you did not direct the question to me but i did get a 21 on the PAT's and felt like the BArons book gives the best techniques to master each of the 6 sections. I followed it to a tee and soon i realized that i did not need to go about drawing out the whole structure the entire answer just came to me. All i used is Kaplan online syllabus and TopScore, although i hear that Crack the DAT PAT is really good. Check out the PAT? thread it has some good tips in their.

I don't see why retaking would help. There is a reason why there are more things in an application than a RC score. No one can be stellar in every aspect. My science GPA is a 3.85, I have tons of service, and leadership. Maybe I won't get in a lot of schools but I can't go to a lot of schools, I can only go to one. If God wants me in Dental School, I'll get in. I've done all I can do.

I definitely do not think you need to retake it! YOU DID AMAZING! 👍 your science scores are absolutely FANTASTIC! and your gpa is really high too! I think you are a really good candidate! The reading comp isnt great 🙁 but i dont think that with your other scores and your gpa you will have any problem!
Happy to hear that you used the destroyer...thats what I'm using now! Any other advise? How long did you study for?

Congrats again!!! 🙂🙂🙂

Good luck!

Thank you very much. I studied Kaplan for 2 months 8/hr a day. I then studied destroyer, achiever and top score in 2 weeks for 14 hours a day. The only reason why I studied for 14 hours a day the last 2 weeks is because I went through the destroyer twice in depth. I don't recommend slamming it all in two weeks though. Kaplan helped give me a good base, but destroyer is what really prepared for the real thing. I would go through destroyer at least twice, understanding all thats in it and memorizing it.

Dude, your scores are amazing. I can only hope to do as well as you. Can you explain your preperation schedule. For example, how many hours per day and how many weeks did you study for the three sciences. Cracking a 20 in all the sciences is very impressive. Your other scores are very good too. Great job! Have fun in dental school.

Are you kidding? Your scores are great, in the mid 20's on all plus a 3.8 science gpa you have nothing to worry about with one low score (even if its reading) your other scores completely overshaddow it. Good job!

Did you do practice exams from topscore & achiever? if yes, then do you mind sharing your scores? I am using both of the software & i am doing pretty bad in both of them. Just wanted to see how much resemblance is present between real DAT & practice exam scores

thanks!

On Top score all of my sciences were between 18-20. My reading was between 20-25, and PAT was between 20-25, and math was between 18-21.

On Achiever my sciences (all sections) were from 17-19, Reading from 18-20, PAT 17 twice and 18 once, and math 18-19.

Great scores. The 18 QR is nice even though I know you think it is only OK. Your total science score of 23 is fantastic and your overall score of 20AA is high as well. Most students that get into dental school these days hit 18 or 19 on their DAT and have around a 3.5 GPA. You are ahead of the game in both areas by a considerable amount.

Don't listen to the poster that said your 16 in RC will keep you out. Just make sure you apply to the schools that don't have minimum cutoffs on DAT scores. The schools that practice those strict policies are missing out on some fine candidates such as yourself because they fail to realize that one section does not make an applicant. You are obviously very bright in your sciences and studied very hard to earn such a high GPA in college. Likewise, nobody earns a 23TS on the DAT sciences without some serious dedication to their field of study.

I wish you nothing but the best this cycle and know you will have many acceptances to choose from. There are plenty of schools that evaluate candidates based on their entire application and not just a sub-score, so those are the dental schools you want to put on your list. They might take one look at your RC of 16, but then look at the rest of your DAT scores, GPA, and extracurriculars and offer you an early interview. That's where you apply!

Thanks a lot. I already sent my application in a month ago. But I am applying to a lot of school so some of them are bound to not have a cut off. I appreciate the compliments.

I would retake it despite your great score in the sciences.

A 16 in RC can raise red flags in many of the schools.
