Finished DAT June 9 2009 HELP PLEASE??
hey guys i just finished the DAT and I'm so happy it's all over.

Break down of my scores are as follows:
PAT: 23
BIO: 29
CHEM: 24
RC: 28
QR: 18
OCHEM: 18

TS:22
AA:23

break down of my studying etc
i started on May 15 and took the test june 9 and i studied maybe 4-5 hrs a day. it felt like more becasue i didn't hang out with my friends and stuff near the end but i did procrastinate a lot ie. read sdn stuff, do my DAT application, watch movies haha. so yeah

bio: read kaplan, did destroyer, read cliffs for sections i found hard and on things i missed from destroyer(plants, taxonomy etc).. make sure you know the embryonic layers well and deuterostome stuff

chem: read kaplan, did destroyer twice, wikipedia stuff

org: wow, maybe don't listen to me for this one haha... well honestly i could have done better if i had invested more time in memorizing MECHANISMS as opposed to the reactants and products. but really good resources for this is kaplan, and destroyer. destroyer got me from like.... failing this section to an 18. all i did was read kaplan and do destroyer twice but if you like understand everything about all the major rxns, you will ace it. (plus i ran out of time)

Pat: cdp. that's all you need. finished with 10 min to spare

QR: i didn't do well because of stupid arithmetic stuff so too bad. i could have pulled off a 20 with more knowledge of formulas. CDM was a good resource to get the timing under control, i finished with 5 min to spare

reading: read fast, and what you should get from reading through the passage is what each numbered paragraph is about (roughly) so you can find answers really fast.

So. i don't know if QR and OCHEM will hurt my chances of getting into dental school.... any advice on this? i have .... maybe a 3.5 overal 3.5 science or higher. i have shaddowing volunteer but no research. i applied on june 2. sooo..... if someone could get back to me, THANKS!!!!

edit: i'm also glad to sell materials!!

Yea dude! Why do you even think you need any additional advice? Those scores are great.
Good Luck!

Just wondering, what is your major?? And did that help you with the bio section?

The reason I'm asking: I'm a bioengineering major, so I haven't had that many pure bio classes. I've had animal form and function, physiology, mol bio and biochem, but like non of them were as detailed as those of bio majors, and I've never had anything on taxonomy, ecology, plants or development (and maybe some other topics skipping my mind right now). A lot of ppl say the bio section is random and their bio background helped them. Was it the same for you? Or was the cliffs thorough enough???

hey shinpe, i am a bio major and going through destroyer, i felt like my previous bio knowledge was kicking in and helping with questions. but i avoided taking classes on plants and all that garbage (hey, its just not for me!) but the two main classes that most of my previous knowledge is from is physiology and anatomy. but that being said, i went through cliff's and found it very detailed. i didn't need to read it several times because the material was review but if i were you, i would memorize the information there, because i think it covers about everything you need to know. for topics that you feel are STILL poorly explained there, go to the campbell text, the diagrams are fantastic. but yeah cliffs is the same level of detail (i'd even say more) that is on the dat.

well main concern is ochem.... i hate ochem 🙁 and the fact that i have no research experience.... on the other hand, tons of volunteer and shaddowing ... BUT THE DAT IS DONE AND DEAD and i am happy to spend the rest of my summer not locked up in a room looking at things like H2SO4 + something equals something else. 😀

29 Bio
24 Chem
18 Orgo
_________
22 TS???

I really wonder how they figure the TS scores out.

Bio really contributes a lot to TS, I think. I think TS is based on how many science questions you get wrong. Since bio has more questions...

On the score sheet your receive right after taking it, it says that the TS is a standard score based on the 100 questions in the Natural Sciences section and not an average of the 3 scores.

I really wonder how they figure the TS scores out.

They actually add up the questions you got right out of the 100 questions and do the scoring based on that....it's on one of the last pages on the sample ada test.

Ohdearhopeipass, well you passed...got nothing to worry about...haha...18s wont hurt you, especially since you scored that 29 on bio...obviously they weight bio the highest of the science section bc there are more questions, so that 29 will more than compensate for the ochem....props on fantastic scores and good luck with apps!
