Hi Guys,

I took my DATs a second time last friday. Can you please let me know what you think.

My first scores were:
TS: 17
AA: 18
QR: 17
RC: 21
Bio: 18
OC: 16
GC: 16
PAT: 16

These are my scores from last week:
TS: 19
AA: 20
QR: 20
RC: 19
Bio: 19
OC: 19
GC: 22
PAT:19

What do you guys think? Bio was much harder and Reading was much much harder then the 1st time I took it. Also How do they weigh two times taking your test? Best score or the average of both?

Thanks,

L

Seems like you're good to go. What's your PAT? Some schools do find that important.

Your first scores weren't all that bad. You could've gotten some interview invites with them. If your GPA is high enough, I would've just gone ahead and applied with the first set of scores instead of retaking and wasting a year.

And I hope you've already submitted your application to AADSAS. They are rather slow getting everything processed and sent out. Especially now, since most schools have already given away their pre-Dec. interview slots.

very solid improvement almost across the board. I wish you the best of luck!

19 TS?! Wouldn't that be at least a 20? What were your PAT scores? Good job by the way!

It seems like everyone who retakes, improves on their scores! That's awesome! 👍

Sorry My 1st time was PAT 16

2nd time was 19.

Yeah, I applied very late the 1st time around, and I got one interview, but they said i need to improve my score. I applied earlier this time around but since I knew I was retaking my DAT, I applied to 3-4 schools, but had an interview already for 1. But the other schools are held up for my 2nd DAT score. I just want to make sure that my 2nd scores are solid and competitive. I'm tired of this application process.

You think my TS would be 20, with a Orgo Chem and Bio of 19 and Gchem of 22, but it came up to 19 🙁 I'm surprised I did so much better in Gchem, it was my least favorite subject on the 1st test.

Personally I saw kaplans techniques for the reading, and they were really not working for me. Takes me too much time to read and write down keywords.

This is what I did, but the test was a little harder the 2nd time because they asked some more intuitive questions. So dont' know if my strategy is the best. But I scored higher on my 1st test and scored in the mid 20s on practices.

I bought one of those speed reading software like Eye-Q or SpeadReader, and trained myself to scan for words faster. I delved right into the questions looking for the key word to match with the key word in the article. And answer those after rereading the paragraph. I would do the overall article questions last or mark them, because once you finish answering all the detail questions, you would have read the article by now and don't need to reread it. That is pretty much what I did, but they are asking trickier questions, so its a little more tough.

this confused me too...don't understand how your TS is a 19 with those scores...was your unofficial report different from your official report? either way, great job...and good improvement across the board. good luck w/ the application process...

Well don't I just get my informal #s after my test. When do I get a formal report, I thought they don't send you anything else unless they do an audit. Or am I confused?

So when it comes to TS, it isn't the average...the scores weighed heavily are the ones you did worst on. Bio is also weighed a little more than the other two.
You got two 19s so they are the major factor. Unless you pull something like a 24ish+, you get a 19.

Don't forget that you may have been 1 1uestion from an 18 on the two sections.

I want to know more about this speed reading software. I know you said that you looked for the key word that match the key words in the questions but dont you think most questions in the DAT require an understanding of the whole passage like the authors tone and similar questions which require some thinking and reading the entire passage. How much is this software? Great scores!

Well when I say a keyword, is like if they ask for a date, number something that is not in every paragraph. You just scan as fast as you can until you see that date and then read the sentence and decide if that is related to your question. Like I said, I save any general question like tone of the article last. Because by the time you are finishing scanning and answering all the detailed questions you would have the whole article. Well I had this rip off copy of Eye-Q and it actually did help in the sense it helped me train not read in sentence but take everything as a whole. I think I found a copy on ebay for 13 dollars, but I also bought speadreader from amazon which I thought was ok for 30 dollars. This might not work for everyone. I had the ability to read fast when I was a young kid, so it wasn't too hard to train myself to do it. But my RC scores aren't perfect.
