First of all thank you to all of you guys. This is an awesome site and a great study aid 😳. This is my first time posting. So here is my breakdown. PLEASE ADVISE whether I should retake or have any chance of getting in to dental school this time around.

QR 16
PAT 17
RC 17 (Piano 🙁)
BIO 20
GC 19
OC 19
TS 19
AA 18

BIO: The questions were very random. I was surprised to see that there were very few classification questions. I used Kaplan blue book, Top Score and Cliff’s Bio. Cliff’s Bio was very useful. I read the Kaplan blue book 2 times and followed up with Cliffs Bio to clear things up that I was weak with.

GC: Very similar to Kaplan and Topscore. I wish I had used destroyer though. I only learned about destroyer 10 days before my exam date. I also wish I was faster in answering the questions in this section.

OC : similar to Kaplan and Topscore. There were many questions on NMR and spectroscopy. The very first question was about C NMR. I didn’t really study these topics in depth and didn’t expect to have many questions on them.

PAT: Used Crack DAT PAT (10 exams). I don’t know what happened here I was scoring 19-21 on the DAT PAT. I am really worried about this score. I don’t think my score is good enough.

QR: Really DIFFICULT. I ran out of time, I had about 10 questions to finish and had only 3 minutes at the end. Kaplan is too easy for this section. Not a good predictor of your scores at all. TopScore was ok. Again not a good predictor. The real DAT had lots of word problems. The ratio of word problems to simple/plug and chug math was much higher than either TopScore or Kaplan. I don’t really know how I would have studied for this section differently and I am fairly good at math

RC: I read so much about the dreaded piano passage so I decided to look over the working of a piano the night before the exam. I was hoping I would not get this passage but just as my luck would have it I did. As soon as I saw this I decided to finish the other two passages before going on to the piano. This section had more inference questions (2-3) per passage than Kaplan or Topscore. The piano passage was just too long and had to guess on about 7 questions when I ran out of time.

Overall, I am really unhappy with my scores 🙁. I wish I had used destroyer. I studied for 5 weeks. My BCP 3.73, Science GPA 3.67 and Overall GPA 3.73 from Cornell University. Not URM. Good extracurricular activities and good LOR’s. Please advise on what I should do and a few schools that might be in my range with these scores.

I'm gonna have to suggest a retake. With only one 20 score, a PAT of 17, an RC of 17, and a QR of 16 you'll have a hard time getting into dental school!

Your GPA is great, but these DAT score are a bit low. If you have the money, I would go ahead and apply (you never know, and I still think you have an ok shot!!). If you're hoping rather to apply once and get in for sure, I suggest a retake. Best Wishes :luck::xf:

ya a retake might need to happen but I know some crazy things have happened before... I had a friend who had an 18 AA and a 3.2 GPA and she got into Boston U so you never know but a retake would def improve your chances

Wouldn't a October retake be too late? Should I not apply this cycle or should i call schools and tell them that i am retaking the DAT and it would come in late? Thanks for you help again

I'm on the same boat as you. My DAT scores were pretty bad (PAT: 18, TS & AA 16). The earliest I can retake is October 22 and SDNers were telling me that I have a shot if I scored 20+ AA. I already sent in my AADSAS and I just send in my app to ADA for the DAT. I am thinking about calling the schools to see if I have a chance if I retake.

By the way, what schools have you applied or going to apply to?

While your DAT scores aren't terrible, they don't match your GPA. If you think putting in more time will raise your scores & you have the time to study, then retake. If not, then hope for the best.

What's your major at Cornell?

to anybody who didn't do so well on the DAT, just apply! you never know. but at the same time, schedule for a retake and study well! go ahead and apply for this cycle...your gpa is great and your DAT scores aren't bad.

can you send me the making of piano website? i tried to find int and i couldn't find it. also do you by any chance have the website for frap as well? THANKSS

I really don't know what schools I will be applying to yet but I am a NY State resident. I am still looking for schools around my DAT range. Where will you be applying to?

I think I can do better on a retake. I was scoring 19-21 on topscore. Topscore 1 AA 19. Topscore 2 AA 21 and Topscore 3 AA 21. My score for the free kaplan online was 24. Kaplan bluebook cd 19 and Kaplan bluebook test 22. I think my nerves got the best of me. I was really nervous before going into the testing center.
