finally took the dreaded DAT. Here are my breakdowns.

PA 18 /54.2
QR 21 /96.4
RC 20/ 64.3
Bio 24/ 98.9
GC 24/97.7
OC 27/ 98.7
TS 25/ 99.5
AA 23/ 98.7

Overall I am happy, scoring what I thought I would score. However, I am disappointed in my PAT score(wanted a 20 minimum), but I guess it could be worse. From what I have noticed, the DAT is kinda whack. They ask extremely easy questions sometimes and they ask random hard questions. Very unpredictable....

PAT: Sources used. top score( a lil bit), dat achiever (a lil bit), cdp mostly. cdp is a very useful source as it is the best way to gain practice and see progress in your perceptual ability. PAT i feel very uncomfortable with bc I dont see the same repetition of questions. every problem is different.
i know people want to see how the real compares to the cdp and other programs. cdps keyholes are easier(More obvious what right answer is). TFE is nearly identical(and cdp helped me the most with this). Hole punching is easier than cdp and angles were slightly easier. pattern folding is harder again bc cdp makes answer choices more obvious. What messed me with was my cube counting and this is what separated me from the 20 that I wanted. when I hit the next button, I lost track of which figure that I used and didnt realized that they switched figures in my state of stress. stupid mistake, I was like......wait I thought I answered this before. too bad, bc i nailed cubes on practice tests.

Reading: Used CDR and did one top score test. I actually scored a 29 in a top score test which I knew was an aberration. I was never a crazy reader and my real score was the real representation of where I was at. CDR is the best practice as a lot of those passages match the style and question types you see.

Biology: get your hands on as many sources as possible. For reading material get cliffs bio and barrons ap bio. if you have time try to find someoe who has condensed the campbells book. a lot of practice tests(top score for sure directly gets questions from this book) I did destroyer, datqvault, and all of topscore tests for questions.. Do not get upset if any practice tests here. no single practice test can be a representative of the real dat. in fact the more you get wrong in practice tests the more you can add to your knowledge base. I averaged a lil over a 20 in datqvault and did all three top score tests with a 19,21, 18. I can not emphasis enough how good of a resource DAT Destroyer is here. So many random questions were from there near verbatim. datqvault also helped, but dont remember specific questions that it helped here.

Gen Chem: questions ranged from extremely easy to really random. DAT Destroyer is definitely good here, but the real test doesnt go into the extend of calculation problems. very few keq kind of problems on real test, sort of wanted more of that bc thats what i focused on. there were a lot of random conceptual questions. real whack honestly. did all three top score tests as well.

O chem: Do Destroyer and Chads videos. I should have added that to gen chem. specificially there was a lab question directly from destroyer about separating isomers. very typical questions that you normally see. now too hard honestly.
QR: this is the most mysterious questions. they take easy high school math and nobody that i have seen posting has been scoring like perfect. this section is WAY harder than anything I have seen on practice tests. I used CDM and Destroyer, both which were helpful. Destroyer is helpful for speciifc statistic questions. I was getting perfect scores in CDM and getting 28-30. the problems that were put on the real thing were much harder and it was much harder to manage time.

well thats all folks. feel free to post and give me feedback. I am applying to a ton of schools, need to finalize my app still crossing my fingers that ill get in this cycle even tho its very late.

nice job, !

How did you study gchem and ochem,

well, I did super good on both classes,, however now I am studying them for my dat and I keep getting 9,10 wrong.

I don't know why I keep getting it, they don't seem like hard ..

is it because there are alot of material to study at once ?

how did you study for chems ?

bluesolic,

You are getting 9-10 wrong in what? DAT Destroyer? This book is an excellent investment. You ought to try Chads videos as well. I was just like you very good at science and did well in chemistry biology and math in school. however it was wake up call at first but i was messing up a lot with destroyer, top score and chads. on the real exam, it didnt happen like that in the sciences due to the repetition.

when you do dat destroyer and chads videos you are basically getting an idea of the full range of dat topics that they cover and the way the DAT wants you to understand questions. it will fill in gaps in your knowledge.

as with any standardized tests there will always be surprises. the dat had some whacky questions, and I overall thought that the dat was a lot harder than practice material. however, you will maximize your chances of doing well if you focus on the sources that I listed above if you want to get a good DAT score. The general consensus is that destroyer and chads are the best sources for chemistries.

I took practice exams, and I can't get higher than 18.. for chemistries.. I haven't studied biology, after I saw questions in DAT , it was like hell, I didn't know what's going on at all 🙁

I went over DAT destroyer and I got abour 40% 🙁 I was so depressed..
for ochem.

gchem I got about 20% 🙁 , well, i wasn't good at gchem even though I got ALL As .. but I studied alot and thought that I will get high enough score.. but I didn't.

well, I don't know what I should do next, my pace now is getting slower and slower because I don't get any result and I am studying same things over and over and keep getting same score..

I am thinking to stop studying chem but start to study biology, but you know, since I got so frustrated after I skim the biology questions on DAT, I am so scared now...

you know it's like , I couldn't even get good score even though I knew alot of chem and the questions didn't look hard.. but how dare I can study biology ? my confidence is like all the way down to the nucleus of the earth.. I really doubt that I can do the biology questions on DAT even though I study biology...

what should I do !! 🙁

just a quick question for people on thos board? do you think those scores are good enough for uop? i hear there certain schools that want 20s across the board. bummer if i am ruled out bc of that.....feel good enough about everything else.

bluesolic,

don't lose hope. i got an 18 on gen chem like 3 days before today on top score three. just learn from your mistakes and build your foundation. i got an 18 on a sample bio test and ended up with a 24.. i got a 24 on many cdp tests and got an 18. dont give up man. pm me if you have any specific questions.

Tough... normally I would say absolutely yes. However, UoP does like high PAT scores so I'm not sure how much an 18 will hold you back... so not sure?

hey congrats with the scores! good job!
for the reading comp, what method did you approach??

thejamespark,

do not search and destroy. see what the passage is about. I was so bummed out by my screw up on cube counting in pat(bc I knew I screwed my score bc of it) it affected my reading comp first passage. I didnt feel like reading so I went straight to the questions.....and I was just lost. couldnt find anything. the first question came from like the last sentence of the passage.

the best thing is to read the passage and jot down a few words about what the each pargraph was about. that way you are aware of the fine details and you can map through the passage. you are also aware of tone questions bc u are aware of the passage as a whole. I honestly could have done better than a 20 on rc but like I said I let the baggage from the Pat carry over.

i seriously must have missed all of my rc questions on that first passage. I was bummed from the previous section. I took a few deep breaths and in passage 2 and 3 I was calmer and read through the entire passages and knew where everything was in the passage.

Great scores! You totally rocked the sciences! 😱 👍

27 on OChem! What is that...like 2 questions wrong? Do you think Chad's Videos alone is enough to get a good OChem score? And were you already getting most all of the OChem questions in DAT Destroyer right?

If you were getting perfects on QR practice and the real thing was hard...omg, how about for the rest of us. Was it hard calculations, or was it having to know a concept in that if you knew it, it'd be simple, but if you didn't, you can't solve it?

the calculations werent hard if u knew how to translate the problem into variables. it what just hard to figure out how to apply variables to problems. the practice tests didnt require so many steps. it was a little unrewarding to spend the amount of time that i spent in math. should have put the focus on reading or pat instead in hindsight.

organic chem, start with blue book kaplan or chads videos. you understand the range of topics. if you do chads and destroyer you will certainly have a strong foundation. if you want even more supplemental info other than that....get ochem odyssey(the supplemental ochem book through destroyer). I didnt buy it might myself but I heard it was good.
