Hi all,

I took my DAT today, so stressful these days and I think my scores are not that good...need your feedback.

PAT: 20
QR: 15:scared:(I don't know why, i was short on time and there were several problems that I hadnt seen before)
RC: 17 (also short on time, the first passage drag me a lot)
Bio: 18
GC: 19
OC: 19
TS: 19
AA: 18

I'm not a science major and have an overall GAP of 3.58 and Sicence GPA of 3.2. Can you tell me my chances if I am not going for a retake? Possible to get in to any dental schools?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I think you are the poster-child for an exactly average applicant. There's no telling how the Adcom's will look at you, because both GPA and DAT are very average. If you have OUTSTANDING LOR, research experience, shadowing experience, personal statement, etc...then you SHOULD get a few interviews and you would have to dominate those to get in also. To be 100% honest, just to try and make yourself a little above the average, I would consider retaking, and shooting for even just 1 pt increase so you're at the 19-20 range vs the 18-19 range. Even that little jump in score would help push you a LITTLE past the average, but right now you're directly in the middle.

Best of luck. 👍

Last year I had your same AA and TS but higher PAT, QR, and RC. Some of the admissions people told me that it was good enough to be granted an interview (I did my undergrad there so that helped too) but would want to retake if I wanted to be better off after they weigh the applicants. Obviously I didn't get in and it was because of my score so this year I retook and did better. Its not impossible to get in with those scores but you want to be getting ready for a retake in 3 months if want a shot at an acceptance letter.

Hey Jake8,

I had a question..You said that you didn't get in because of your score? Did you choose not to retake? If you did retake, then when did you retake? Before or after the interview?

I am in the same boat. I have the same AA of 18 and TS of 19 with similar GPA. The earliest I can retake is the first week of Oct and I was wondering if I were granted interviews in October, before my retake, if they would hold off on making a decision until after the retake.

Would it even be possible to get an interview invite or would I immediately be rejected even if I were planning on retaking with those scores? My AADSAS has been submitted and my letters and checks are on their way.

If i am planning for a retake, do i need to tell the dental schools since application and checks and everything else are on their way to the dental schools?
