I've been a long time fan of SDN. I think it's cool how people encourage others to do well - I've had a lot of motivation from this site. I just finished my DAT today. I'm not sure what to think. They're not as good as some that I've seen on this forum. What do you think my chances are of getting in? I don't want to retake it - but do those 17's force me to do so?

PA 19
QR 17
RC 17
Biology 23 ( :luck: )
Gen Chem 18
Org Chem 19
Total Science 20
Academic Average 19

(My GPA's are all around 3.00)

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them, just PM me, I'll try get back to you tommorow.

hey how did u study for bio section. I used kaplan, barron, did all the kaplan practice problems, scholarware, KSF review, acethedat but still i don't score more than 17...

I think your scores will get you in a few private schools like BU or NYU, since they have larger class sizes. Moreover, your state school will most likely accept you as well.

Wish you the best,
Rich

:bump: I had the Kaplan course and DAT achiever. I've done the questions at least 4 times each!

I've had quite a few PM's, so I guess I'll just share my DAT experience here:

First of all, I am an average student- if I can pull these kind of scores, I know a lot of you can do MUCH better! It's all about how much work you put in. IF I CAN DO IT - ANYBODY CAN! So, RELAX!

Biology: If you read Kaplan from front to back, then expect somewhere from 17-18. If you want to add a few points to this, then my advice would be to use Schaum's. Most of the questions were very BASIC, but they do throw in some 'out of nowhere' type questions. To be honest, I lucked out on this section.

Gen Chemistry: Just use Kaplan for this - they have done a good job. On my exam I had quite a bit of calculations, but I only had to 'set-up' the answers. There was a lot of conceptual stuff too, know polar bonds, and simple stuff like that.

Org Chemistry: Use Kaplan - it's MORE than enough!

PAT: Some people have gone through some extreme measures for angle ranking. Instead of wasting time with a foldable ruler, or whatever, just eliminate answer choices step by step. Everything else is just about the same.

RC: Just scan. Answers are right out of the passage.

QR: Practice. Even if you are good at math, PRACTICE. I had a lot of word problems that threw me off. Kaplan seems to be good for this.

I didn't take any full length practice tests, but I did attempt the Kaplan CD after going through the book once. I got a 17 in bio, 17 in gen chem, and an 18 in org chem.

I'd probably retake it.

I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't want to risk not getting another 24 in Biology! The 24 is what beefs up my other scores! But maybe you are right.

I've had almost 500 views here, and only a few people providing me with an input. It's crazy, because most of the other 'DAT Done' posts are by people scoring 20's across the board. Everybody knows that these people are going to be interviewed. I don't want to take anything away from these people - because they deserve it. But I would really appreciate some more input. I've had some people tell me to retake it, and others are telling me that I'm good to go.

I don't know too much about the application process, or how DAT's stack up. I've just been told my 24 in Biology is Awesome (99.1 percentile). And for this reason, I don't want to take it again.

But if I retook it, I may get a lower score in Biology, but I'm hoping I could increase my QR and RC enough to counteract the loss in points for Biology.

GOOOOOSH, I'm sooo Stressed Out right now. How do you all Cope?

I just need to know if I should retake it. I don't want to call the school - I find this undesirable. But if you have any experience with the application process, and know what kind of scores/gpa gets an interview, then I'd really appreciate you input.

Thanks Again.

Iambatman!

I just thought I would let you know that I also have an AA of 19, and have already received a few invites.
Case Western and Arizona! My interview with Case was the 29th of August and with Arizona I am scheduled for the 14th of September. One thing to keep in mind is that no matter what people say on SDN is doesn't mean that it's true. The application process is pretty screwy and it is pretty hard to predict. For instance I applied to Temple and have heard nothing from them but a friend who applied at the same time with AA18 and about the same GPA has an interview with them this month. The only thing you can do is keep your fingers crossed. I hope it helps however to know that people with stats like yours are getting interviews. Let me know if you have any questions.

Lost is a 100% right Batman Dont sweat it, screw the People with the 20's you dont need 20's to get into dental school. Bepateint enjoy life you'll get an interview. The chances of you getting are good unless they really dont like a specific thing on your application. 🙂

Thanks Lost and surgeon! Your both right - I just need to sit back, finish my secondaries, and just sit back with my fingers crossed. Thanks again!
