hi everyone! it feels really good to be done with the dat! 🙂 i'm not one to post scores, but i'm willing to share some info!! i used mainly kaplan to study...

BIO: i had a lot of strange questions that i dont remember reviewing with kaplan, so i had a few i had to guess on. i thought this would be my best section, but it wasnt... i would suggest another supplement to the bio notes just in case. dont worry too much about detail.

GCHM: with all the kaplan practice, i was scoring very low on practice tests but on the actual test, i did best on this section! what everyone else says about this section is right: much much easier than what you will expect. if you know our basic calculations, you'll do fine

OCHM: this section was pretty easy. if you fully understand mechanisms and EAS, you should be fine. kaplan practices tests were much harder, but if you go over and understand questions you couldnt answer, it should be good enough and good practice.

PAT: wow!! this section was crazy! keyholes and TFE were waaay easier comapred to those angles!! everyone was right about those! they DID all look the same! on all my practice tests on kaplan, TFE was my worst section and angles was always my best (15/15 every time!!). but on the actual test, i had to spend more time on angles (good thing TFE was easier!!). i dont think kaplan was good enough practice for the angles.. but it was a good basis. hole punching was interesting.. only a few familiar folds from kaplan, so be sure you use something else to practice your hole punching. pattern folding was simple 🙂

RC: if you are taking kaplan, you better practice with something else! i didnt really practice RC, just learned the tips from kaplan and used them as best i could. kaplan practice tests were easier. I was scoring about 18 each time on practice, and did better on the acual test (i think i got lucky). the passages on the actual test are LONGER than the ones kaplan gives you, so be sure you manage your time well. i read the first passage and answered all the questions. second passage i roadmapped and third, i was running out of time, so i didnt read.. i just looked for the answers.. it turned out pretty well for me, but just wanted to warn you all who havent taken it yet! 🙂

QR: my worst section. i think i was too focused on trying to get all the ones i knew how to do right, that i spent too much time on them. i ended up running out of time, but i did have to put in a lot of guessing (i didnt leave anything blank). math has never been one of my strengths, and i guess i should have studied a bit more, but oh well, its over now!!... kaplan practice tests were WAAAY harder than the actual test. just be sure you know what you are doing & when it comes to word problems, be sure you know what they are asking. algebra and trig were pretty straight forward.

well, thats it for me! if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. 😉 the test isnt as bad as i thought i would be.. good luck!!

Congrats on your " UNKNOWN " scores..😀 😀 ...it sounds like u did pretty good...
do u think Kplan blue book is enough to study the Gen CHM and Org CHM ??..also how was your bio in more details !!
thank u and congrats again...by the way..what schools u'r applying to??

i actually took the kaplan online course, but since the materials are both kaplan, im thinking that they are quite similar. the gchm on kaplan practice exams was much harder than the actual test. if you know your basics (molarity, molality, normality, balancing redox, etc.) and understand how to manipulate equations to find your answer, you should be fine... on all my kaplan practice tests, i scored 14s and 15s but did much better on the actual test 🙂 i stressed myself out on the math part of chemistry, that i ended up cramming two days before the test on chm concepts.. so dont forget to study those too!! i think kaplan gives you everything you need to know for chm... i would focus more on finding a supplement for biology.

bio: i had a few genetics questions that were really easy as long as you know the hardy weinberg equation!! i didnt have anything on taxonomy or hormones.. honestly, i cant remember the questions i had to guess on...

ochm: was pretty straight forward. if ochm is a problem for you, i would suggest shaums ochem (which can be used for chm also).. i didnt have anything on NMR.. mostly just mechanisms, synthesis and eas.. know your stereochem too, it helps..

good luck to you! if you have any more questions, i'd be happy to answer them :luck:
