Hey Everyone,

wow so let me just say it's been quite a long haul. I just finished taking my DAT today. I was basically a wreck driving home, had to pull over. lol. I was actually really calm throughout the entire exam, which is so odd for me because I'm the type of person who gets easily worked up/nervous for EVERY exam. Anyways, here's how I did:

PAT: 19 (75.2)
Quant: 17 (63.2)
RC: 20 (66)
BIO: 21 (90.4)
GCHM: 27 (99.0)
Orgo: 27 (98.2)
TS: 24 (99.1)
AA: 22 (95.4)

My g.p.a. is 3.95 and I will be graduating with my B.S. in Biology this upcoming May! I only hope I get some interviews and acceptance...I've wanted this SO bad for years...ever since grade 10. All throughout university I've worked my butt off knowing that it would only help me out inthe long-run because my goal has always been to be a dentist. I started studying June 1st after travelling all of May and studied consistently until september. I was hoping to study more in sept but I have gotten so busy with my school courses that I was unable to go back through a lot of the material I wanted to.

I did do kaplan and I thought it was good. A lot of people bash it but I think it was great for the most part...that is the online material and big book. I never got the chance to do all the online practice tests but that's OK. I also bought topscore and sachiever but didn't have any time to do them...I only did the bio sections on achiever. I will likely use them to prepare for my canadian dat in about a month. Destroyer was a huge help, especially for orgo and gen chem. I'm not just saying that b/c of my scores either..when I took the kaplan diagnostic i scored a 12 on orgo and i think a 14 on gen chm. They were consistently my lowest scores. But after doing destroyer and ESPECIALLY odyseey, I started consistently scoring highest in orgo and much better in gen chm. And those were the 2 sections I was most confident going into this exam today. I also went back through all my old university stuff. I'm a neat freak and after every exam I have had in university a kept all my study notes I had made. So I went back through these and refreshed my memory on some good details. I also used CrackPAT (10 test version) which I thought was very good. Fairly representative of the real test. I was a little surprised i didn't get a tad bit higher on the pat today because my last 3 crackpat I was scoring about 22, but the others were around 18-20 so fair. I saved angles for last and I had a method which I use to evaluate them but its a bit time consuming and I ran out of time today to use that method =(

Anyways, I found bio to be fairly straight forward. A few off balls but nothing too crazy...then again I do love bio. gen chem I also found straight forward...I caught a mistake I had made where I forgot to convert to the proper units so I went back and corrcted it. And orgo was good, though I can almost swear there was a mistake b/c a reactant went from 5 carbons to 6 carbons in the answer BUT the only reagents used were BH3 h202 followed by CrO3 and I'm pretty damn sure you dont add carbons using those. so not quite sure what was going on there.

Pat was OK. Like I said i ran out of time. I am fairly happy with my score. I found some pattern foldings really tricky. Cube count was complete straight forward. Crack pat prepared me for hole punch. TFE was OK. I found keyholes prob the most dificult. I soent a lot of time picking between two answers.

Reading I am happy I got a 20! On practice tests I usually scored around 20 so I thought for sure I'd get a 17! My method was skim paragraph, create brief outline of each paragraph (I am the type of person who needs an outline/flow of EVERYTHING) so I don't think any other method would hae worked any better FOR ME. Everyone is different. My first paragraph was bio based and on the one section of bio I find the most complicated/enjoy the least! So that was rough and I guessed a lot. The second one was interesting, somewhat biop related. and the third I surprisingly enjoyed, though it was on something kinda strange.

Finally Math. My method was skip any long word problems and just do simple ones. VERY HAPPY with a 17! I was expecting 15. The last 3 problems were straight forward but I ran out of time =( The first 3 were hard and that scared me and so I wasted some time on them. Then i started my "skip and go" method after question 3.

Anyways guys, I am going to go rest. My calves are killing me (stressed?) and I am heading to Toronto tomorrow for some good shopping and relaxing. Thank you everyone so much for your help throughout this. Let me know if you need anyything and I will try to stay up-to-date on here and answer questions.

Cheers

Well done buddy! With these scores and your GPA, looks like you'll be working on MY teeth! 😀

We must have had the same test. It was late in the organic section. I stumbled on it b/c I too was thinking... "what the hell?". It took and extra 20/30sec. to look through all the other answers, re-think the reaction, and choose the most correct answer. I got to #99 and ran out of time, leaving #99&100 incomplete. I finished with a 19 on the section and can't help but think I would have gotten a 20 had I been able to answer the last two questions. I was furious over the break for not finishing the organic section b/c I have the most confidence in it among the sciences. I think it affected me for the latter half of the test and I know it affected my organic and science scores. Obviously, it didn't have much effect on your score, but for those of us with average scores, every question counts. I wrote a complaint to ADA. It is totally unacceptable to have obvious mistakes on the real DAT. Has anything happened like this on the DAT? Can they grant re-takes for DAT errors? Any thoughts?

Hey, if you call ADA right away (before they send the scores to the schools) I think you can retake. I had an error on the gen chem section but didn't do anything about it. However, I called ADA (after like 2months) and they told me that people who complained right away were able to retake for free. So call ADA and find out!

Thanks. Do you know of a number? I found something on the ADA web page but their offices are closed on Sat. I finished the test yesterday at about 4:30. I sent an email, but I'd rather speak with someone... SOON.

hey Guys,

thanks for the congrats. I truthfully never thought I would get those scores. You guys have been so awesome. Best of luck to you all and let me know if you need anything.

Cheers
