Hi everyone!

I am a new member but I have randomly come on this website to read information. A lot of the sources I used to study for the DAT I found out from this forum, so thanks everyone! Appreciate it! During my studying time I did avoid this website but now that I'm done I don't mind answering any questions!!

I took my DAT this month>
AA: 21
TS: 22
Orgo: 26
Chem: 22
Bio: 20
Reading: 21
PAT: 20
Quant: 15 😱

Math sucks. I studied a lot so I don't know what happend!

Sources I used were: DAT Destroyer, Kaplan, Shaum's, SAT II for Chem [so I could get my basics down solid], my bio book, DAT Achiever, Topscore

I am getting my post bacc to help my GPA & currently dreaming of getting into a great Dental School...!😍

Great scores, schools dont care much about QR, so dont stress over it,
How did u study for orgo? 🙂

Hey... Nice Scores! How Did you Study for Gen Chem? I Seem to be having the most trouble with this section...the Destroyer is pretty detailed.... How was the actual DAT in comparison with Destroyer's Gen Chem?

I used Shaum's to get my basics down because Shaums doesn't really go over specific reactions like claisen or wittag. However, it's great for why stuff has a higher melting, boiling etc, why carb acids are more acidic etc etc. Then I did a bunch of Kaplan subject tests and lots of practice tests along with DAT Destroyer..loved the road maps. I also took a lot of notes of whatever I studied so I wasn't just reading but taking notes and doing all the problems that Shaum's gave.

Hope that helps!!

For Chem I started off with a SAT II Gen Chem book. I know it sounds odd but it helped! Again, ...to get my basics down and even did some of the subject tests. The one I had was really old from when I was in high school but doesn't matter in my opinion. Then I did destroyer and all the Kaplan Subject tests for Chem. I'd take notes on everything and just keep doing problems and if I got anything wrong I'd go over that whole section/chapter again.

I felt the real DAT was half conceptual half calculations. I remember achiever had a lot of calculations but the real thing wasn't like that.

I guess the best advice I can give is study what you don't know first. Gen Chem scares me so I did that first then math but clearly math still sucked for me ...eek!😕

Hey thanks for the advice. You're amazing scores definitly outweigh the math. Good luck this cycle... All things are possible.

The gen chem in the destroyer is on the money. Know and understand every question and answer, and you should be golden in the chemistries and ok in math too. The bio should be supplemented with cliffs (or schaumms) and wikipedia.

Nice scores! Dont worry to much bout the QR its prob the least important section. Some schools have a cut-off so just call to make sure before you apply but you should be fine assuming you dont have a terrible GPA. Your science scores are terrific! Plus a 21 AA is great

Thank's for the advice Klutzy! People say Schuams for Bio is WAY too dense, but Cliff's AP is great... Should I Just get Cliff's? I just took genetics, biochem, and immuno so I am pretty good with those sections.. Need to brush up on Endocrinology and Animal classification (HATE them). Ive also went through kaplan and destroyer once, plan on going through the destroyer twice more before the exam.

Wow, these are nice scores. How long did you study? Did you apply to any schools yet?

I studied 6-7 weeks for about 6-7 hours a day first 2-3 weeks and 8-9 hours last few weeks. I used a timer to make sure I was putting in real hours. So..if I went to the bathroom or ate the timer went off!

I think everyone should get a timer when they study! It helped me manage my time really well!🙂

Thanks for the compliment! I really hope I get into an awesome dental school!!!

wow,, congrats. can u plz post ur achiever and topscore scores? thanks

Hey I actually think it is a bad idea for anyone to post up their achiever or topscore scores. It's easy to feel like oh I will get this then or I won't get this. I don't want to influence anyone but as a summar I got 19's as my AA and 20-22 on my PAT on all 3 achiever tests..., but don't take this to heart! It varies and I am a nervous reck when I take practice exams so I found a lot of careless mistakes when I went over my practice tests. I was expecting a 19 on the real thing hopefully and I did much better than a 19, so I don't know if it was all my relaxing techniques I kept instilling in me or I was blessed ahah. I think it was both..maybe a little of my crazy studying too.
