So I just took the DAT and just wanted to thank everyone here who has offered their advice, help, etc. People who absolutely obliterate the DAT and then stick around here to help others is quite remarkable. I'll try to offer any help that I can although there are certainly others on here much more knowledgeable than I.

My scores aren't anything to write home about, (19,19) otherwise I would write in depth about what I thought of the test b/c I appreciated others who have done that in the past.

One other thing I wanted to do was to thank my wife for all that she has done during the past 5 months while I studied. We have 4 kids under the age of 6, and with me working full time, I took just about every night and weekend to study meaning she held down the fort.

Anyway, just wanted to give credit where it was due, both to the people here who provide help and to my awesome wife.

Good luck to everyone. I'm about to go crack a brewsky - or 4...😀😀😀
Cheers.

Congrats, but don't let "only" getting a 19 stop you from letting us know what you thought about the test. Think about all of us unlucky guys who are still taking the exam in...say, 10 days from now haha.

Or lets say those even MORE unfortunate with a test in less than a week.

You didn't have to post the question twice and you probably should have just made your own thread instead of taking this one off topic (and bumping up an '04 thread in the pre-dent section ). But...yeah I think you can take the DAT afterwards, but I wouldn't recommend it in case you have to re-take the test. Also, I don't know if your application would be considered complete if it's missing the DAT (earlier application=better chances of being accepted).

I know of people who did that for this cycle, it's actually not uncommon. From the people I know who did that for this cycle they didn't get interviews until January. It's sort of a bad idea since the dental schools don't look at your application until they receive your scores. I hear it takes like 3 weeks for them to receive your scores after you take them so assuming you take it early August it could be as late as Sept that they actually look at your file, definitely not a good thing.

My personal philosophy is safer is better. I know there are some people who here disagree with my view on taking it during the summer but regardless I think the best thing is to take it before applying.

This is true. So do what adizzle said unless you know for a fact you will not be ready to take the DAT until then.

Congratulation, and good luck for rest of your application. with your situation you have done great job. 👍
