Thank you all for the great tips, suggestions, comments for preparing the DAT! SND was really helpful! Thank you guys!
Here are my scores:
PAT 22
QR 21
RC 19 😳
Bio 23
GC 26😍
OC 24
TS 24
AA 23
Cum GPA 3.65, Sci GPA 3.7.
It is GREAT to be done after two months of studying!
There really isn't any short cuts for preparing the DAT, just study hard and stay focused. I started working full time right after college, but after months after studying on and off in the evenings, I felt I was not improving. I was very hesitant to ask my boss if I could take time off to study, but he agreed! I will forever thank him! 😀 So I used up all my vacation days and took another month without getting paid... (living in Manhattan isn't cheap...)
Anyways, here is what I did in the past two months:
For PAT - I used 10 version CDP, TopScore, Achiever. The CDP is a very good practice, however, I felt my PAT on the actual DAT was harder. May be it was because I was more nervous... some questions had choices that were difficult to distinguish. Although I did finish this section 10mins before it ended and checked my answers to the marked question, I wasn't very confident after this section. The Key Hole and TFE were comparable to CDP. Key Hole may be a bit harder on the actual exam. Angles, they are angels... hate them... they are very similar to CDP - look the same to me. Hole punching and cubes were easier than CDP, and pattern folding was harder. My CDP score went from 18 to 23, averaging around 21. Try to stay calm during this section.
QR - Math Destroyer. 👍 I timed myself for each of the 10 tests, the last one wasn't timed. My raw score from each practice was converted to the scale on the 2007 sample test. It went from 18 to 22, I think. I thought the QR was pretty hard on the DAT, a lot of word problems involving money, percentage... some trig stuff, and simple algebra. Math Destroyer really prepares you in terms of what types of questions you are expecting to see. Some questions I just really couldn't solve under pressure. Math was my strong subject, 790 on SAT math... could have done better, may be?
RC - oh well... I didn't started speaking English until I was 14. yea, that's my excuse. Hopefully it is not going to hurt my chances...
TopScore, Kaplan BB, read one journal from NEJM... I was VERY thankful that there wasn't a piano passage, I still don't know what it is. Is 19 bad? 😕 I know it is not good... 🙁
Bio - Cliff, Kaplan, Destroyer, Alan's notes (found it yesterday), ThinkWell for certain parts - taxonomy mostly. I only took intro bio, A&P, and Biochem in college, so this was my weak area. The exam had a lot of genetics questions, A LOT! and some random questions on taxonomy. I think mostly genetics though... Right now, I could think of at least 6 questions were pure genetics
GC - CHAD CHAD CHAD (The BESTEST chem teacher EVER)!!I also used Destroyer and TopScore. I had 4 years of chem in college (BSci in Chemistry). I went over Destroyer first, found my weak areas, and then watched Chad's video. I sometimes feel enlightened after watching his video, i know, it's weird. 😛 I took notes on everything he says. GC on the DAT did have some calculations, MW were given, but still calculations were involved. May be slightly easier than topscore in turns of calculation.
OC - same as above. In addition, the road map really helped a lot.
I finished NS section about 20 mins before it ended, checked all the marked questions, went over quickly each bio and chem questions, didn't check orgo...
Overall, I am sooooooo happy it's over!!! I hope the 19 on the RC is not going to hurt me... it shouldn't, right? Kinda worried...😕
Best prep material: CHAD's video!! Thank you Chad's so much!!
Achiever: took 2 months ago ranged from 15-17 AA. Waste of money and a good way to ruin your confidence. But it's always good to do more practice questions. If you are tight on cash, get TopScore instead. Achiever, euhh...
TopScore: Great practice!!! Get it!!! I spaced out my topscore practices, did one every two weeks. I use a Mac, and my TopScore is running on a really old windows laptop, so I don't have the exact score with me. Overall, I think my bio ranged from 18-20, Chem from 18 - 21, Orgo from 17 - 21?, PAT - 20 - 22, QR 20-22?, RC 18-21? TS 19, 19, 20, AA 19, 19, 21.
2007 ADA sample NS: Bio 22, Chem 25, OC 28.
Kaplan BB: Biol 24, 24, 28.
One last thing, stay calm during the exam... and good luck SDNers!
